Job description

The Finance team within GMC is located in London and is a high performing finance function for both GMC and GuarantCo. The Financial Controller is a leadership role working actively with the Chief Finance Officer to deliver GMC and GuarantCo’s core financial reporting.

The Financial Controller will take on a broad remit, overseeing and managing the financial operations, accounting and treasury of GuarantCo and GMC. This individual will be expected to strive for continuous improvement in a fast-paced environment, streamlining controls and processes where necessary and developing the team.

Key responsibilities:
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of finance professionals, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
  • Responsible for managing the month-end accounting processes for GuarantCo and GMC, maintaining accurate financial records and delivering robust reporting to a high standard within tight timelines.
  • Responsible for overseeing streamlined financial operations, including payments and invoicing.
  • Deliver quarterly management accounts and annual statutory accounts for GuarantCo (under IFRS) and GMC (under FRS 102), ensuring compliance and excellence in reporting.
  • Main point of contact for all tax advisors and responsible for ensuring all tax deadlines are met.
  • Lead the audit process for GuarantCo and GMC, ensuring timely high quality deliverables and resolving queries, with support from the Finance Manager.
  • Present reports to senior leadership, including Board of Directors and Audit Committees, demonstrating strong understanding of the wider business.
  • Manage the treasury function and support the CFO and CRO to manage liquidity risk.
  • Ownership of financial controls and processes.
  • Support the CFO in driving cost-saving initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency and profitability.
Core Competencies:
  • Degree educated or equivalent with formal accounting qualifications; ACA, ACCA or equivalent
  • Experience in a hands-on finance manager or financial controller role in a small to medium sized business – ideally development finance experience or working in financial services
  • Excellent technical ability, including IFRS based financial and statutory reporting
  • Proficient in the use of desktop programmes including Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word
  • Experience using finance systems and ability to pick up new systems quickly
  • Exceptional communication skills, with an ability to express complex issues succinctly and clearly
  • Experience of leading, motivating and mentoring team members
  • Personable and professional, adept at building relationships
  • Fast-paced, flexible and resilient
  • Passion for complex business challenges and to make a difference in frontier markets
  • Organised, rigorous, and disciplined
  • Familiarity and experience with IFRS 9
  • Experience in using Business Central by Microsoft.
