Job summary

Isca Recruitment is recruiting a commercially astute, hands-on Financial Controller to join an SME with two entities. You will lead the finance function, work closely with the MD and Group CFO, and drive performance through accurate financial analysis and reporting.

The role requires a proactive communicator with manufacturing- or similar-sector experience, strong accounting skills, and a drive to improve processes in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant with ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent.
• Experience in manufacturing or similar environment.
• Proven ability to manage a small finance team and partner with operations.
• Strong data analysis, budgeting and forecasting skills.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a small finance team and oversee day-to-day finance operations.
• Produce monthly management accounts with variance analysis and commentary.
• Provide cost, margin and profitability analysis to manage performance.
• Monitor monthly costs against budgets and investigate variances.
• Prepare VAT returns and manage supplier payments, payroll and pensions.
• Oversee year-end accounts and liaise with Group external auditors.
• Coordinate budgets and forecasts and drive continuous improvement in processes.

Isca Recruitment is delighted to be recruiting for a commercially astute hands‑on accountant to join an SME business with 2 entities as the Financial Controller.

This is a crucial role in the senior leadership team, the Financial Controller will be integral to business working closely with the MD, and Group CFO as well as operational management.

You will take ownership for the accounting functions, help drive performance, improvements and strategic decision‑making through delivering accurate financial analysis and reporting.

Financial Controller - Responsibilities

• Managing a small finance team, overseeing the day-to-day financial operations within the company.
• Producing the monthly management accountants including variance analysis and commentary for local and Group management.
• Providing accurate analysis of costs, margins and profitability.
• Tracking costs monthly against budgets, flagging up trends and investigating variances.
• Preparing and submitting quarterly VAT returns.
• Managing regular stock and general supplier payments and expenses.
• Preparing and submitting monthly payroll and pension.
• Ownership of the year end accounts processes to prepare information for Group.
• Coordinating and directing the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts.
• Managing the year end audit process, liaising with external auditors.
• Implementing and maintaining financial controls and processes, actively contributing to development of company processes.
• Monitoring accuracy of financial systems across the business and working with others on continuous improvement and best practice.

Financial Controller - The Rewards

Salary: £70,000 - £80,000pa

• 25 days holiday + bank holidays, pension, PMI, etc

Hours: Mon - Fri, 37.5hrs, 8:30am - 5pm

Location: In office, 4 days per week in WSM and 1 day per week Gloucester

Financial Controller - The Person

• This role will suit a proactive, commercially astute qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with experience gained in manufacturing or similar.
• You’ll be a first‑rate communicator with experience of staff management and finance business partnering of operational colleagues.
• Experience of management accounting, budgeting and forecasting, financial reporting and financial analysis such as cost, margin, WIP analysis.
• You will enjoy using your data analysis skills to provide clarity to the business.
• A natural problem‑solver you’ll be able to prioritise and meet deadlines in fast‑paced businesses.
• You will be a team player and enjoy working in a collaborative manner with colleagues at all levels in the business.
• Confidence with tech and an excellent understanding of Finance Systems and Excel.
• Full driving licence
