Role Overview
As a Financial Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing the company's financial operations, implementing robust financial controls, and delivering accurate and timely management accounts. Contract accounting skills are essential. You will play a key role in driving financial discipline and supporting strategic decision-making across the business. You will be the key provider of financial information and analysis to the join managing directors.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain strong financial control systems and processes across all departments.
- Prepare monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet, cash flow forecasts, and variance analysis.
- Liaise with external accountants and auditors to support the preparation of year-end statutory accounts.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations, tax obligations, and internal policies.
- Oversee day-to-day financial operations AP,AR, payroll, bank reconciliations, and job costing.
- Provide financial insights and analysis to senior management team to support commercial decision-making.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
- Continuously improve financial reporting systems and tools to support operational efficiency.
- Manage relationships with banks, insurers, and other key financial stakeholders.
- Oversee, train and support the existing accounts team.
Key Requirements
- Qualified accountant ( ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or qualified by experience.
- Proven experience in a similar financial controller or senior finance role, ideally within the construction contracting or M&E sector.
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, controls, and compliance.
- Hands-on approach with excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Experience preparing management accounts and working with external auditors.
- Proficient in accounting software ( e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, Xero) and Excel.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work across teams.
- Organised, proactive, and able to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
