Job summary

Wallace Hind Selection is recruiting a Financial Controller for a well‑established building and civil engineering group in Northamptonshire. The role offers a clear route to Finance Director as the company pursues aggressive growth and entrepreneurial progression.

You will lead a commercial finance function, oversee monthly management accounts, VAT, asset registers and payroll interfaces, while developing strategic plans to maximise value and efficiency across sites.

Qualifications

• Finance qualification (CIMA/ACCA/ACA) or degree preferred; QBE considered.
• Strong strategic planning experience and commercial acumen.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to influence at all levels.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts for group of companies.
• Submit monthly VAT returns for group of companies.
• Line management of Accounts staff.
• Liaise with financial institutions.
• Oversee asset register management.
• Ensure procurement aligns with company accounts and controls.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Financial Controller - Building Services , Civil Engineering, Construction

The successful candidate will aspire to move into an organisation with aggressive growth expectations, where their insights and work can genuinely impact the progress of the business. This is a commercial finance role and will include exposure to both external and internal customers.

The main duties will include;

• Compiling of monthly management accounts for group of companies
• Complete and submit monthly VAT returns for group of companies
• Line management of the Accounts Manager and accounts staff
• Dealing with financial institutions
• Management of Asset register
• Overview of procurement ensuring alignment with company accounts
• Identify and implement strategic tax efficiency to maximise available relief and investment opportunities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

As the Financial Controller, you will have a wealth of experience leading a commercially focussed finance function ideally with in a construction business. We would be delighted to receive applications from Financial Controllers, Finance Directors or Finance Business Partners with aspirations to secure a move to a progressive business where your insights and suggestions will have the potential to shape the organisation.

In addition, you will have;

• A finance qualification (CIMA, ACCA or ACA) or degree would be preferred although we are happy to receive applications from candidates who are qualified by experience (QBE)
• The ability to take an overall commercial view of our business and have an input into change and progression from a financial perspective
• A wealth of strategic planning experience
• Strong communication skills and the willingness to have commercial input at local and group level
• Experience of legal, personnel, health & safety and company secretarial issues
