Job description

We require a hands-on financial controller to lead a busy finance team. You will be primarily responsible for producing reporting and budgets, whilst overseeing and supporting the purchase and sales ledger functions.

The company is presently supported for monthly reporting and strategic advice by a specialist accounting partner and a fractional CFO, offering the ability to learn from highly skilled professional experts.

Key responsibilities include, though are not limited to:

Management Accounting:

• Production of monthly accounts on an accrual basis for presentation and review with senior management
• Preparation of an annual Budget and forecasts, including proficiency in constructing and maintaining simple financial models
• Producing and submitting quarterly VAT returns
• Reconciling the balance sheet and trial balance for the production of year end accounts
• Oversee payroll with the company’s HR consultant and 3rd party payroll bureau
• Liaising with an external accountant for the filing of statutory accounts and audit
• Review and adapt accounts procedures to unlock efficiencies and build an innovative culture in the finance team
• Financial transaction entry across the accounts and maintenance of correct information between Xero and the company’s CRM database
• Stewardship of the company’s bank accounts and treasury processes to deliver secure, efficient and accurate banking functions
• Timely bank reconciliations and actioning of regular payment flows
• Processing of FX and calculating margins based on exchange rates

Team Management:

• Manage a team of 2, providing training and support to ensure effective AR/AP functions:
• Responding to the finance queries and providing timely solutions, both to internal customer-facing account managers, clients directly, and other stakeholders
• Maintaining strong relationships with the rest of the team to provide an excellent service to JLA and its client base

Key Requirement:

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to liaise confidently with clients
• Able to get up to speed rapidly and confident to manage and deliver change
• Experience with Xero, Salesforce and the Microsoft Office suite (especially Excel)
• High degree of proactivity in sourcing and recommending improvements to the company’s systems or processes
• An ability to pick up new IT systems quickly
• Knowledgeable enough of certain non-core business functions (ie. HR, IT, insurance, etc.) to become the company’s responsible employee
• Comfortable working in a very busy environment with a hands-on approach
