Job summary

The Methodist Church in Britain in Hyde seeks a Finance Operations Controller (Income) to lead the income accounting team and ensure accurate billing, cash allocation and month-end reconciliations.

You will own rent setting, service charges and housing income, develop staff, and deliver income information for audits and year-end reporting while driving process improvements.

Qualifications

• Essential housing sector experience.
• Practical experience of rent setting, rent accounting and service charges.
• Background in income accounting or financial operations.
• Experience managing and developing finance colleagues, prioritising workloads against competing deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the income accounting team, setting priorities and ensuring delivery is accurate, timely and controlled.
• Oversee income processing, billing and cash allocation across customer accounts, properties, schemes and finance systems.
• Collaborate with Housing and service charge teams so rent-setting and service charge income is reflected correctly in financial records.
• Review reconciliations, income control accounts, sales ledger balances and deferred income, resolving discrepancies promptly.
• Deliver income information, commentary and audit evidence for month-end and year-end reporting.
• Drive process improvements, data quality and reporting through automation and practical fixes that reduce errors and manual work.

Job description

This Finance Operations Controller (Income) post sits in Hyde's income accounting team and reports to the Head of Financial Transactions. The core of the work is running income accounting day to day, supervising accountants, and making sure billing, cash allocation and reconciliations hold up at month end and year end. Its housing focus sets it apart, with rents, service charges and property sales all in scope. Hands-on housing finance experience is essential, and candidates must complete an online psychometric assessment before interview.

What the job involves

• Lead and develop the income accounting team, setting priorities and keeping delivery accurate, timely and well controlled
• Oversee income processing, billing and cash allocation across customer accounts, properties, schemes and finance systems
• Work with Housing and service charge colleagues so rent-setting and service charge income is correctly reflected in financial records
• Review reconciliations, income control accounts, sales ledger balances, suspense items and deferred income, resolving discrepancies promptly
• Deliver income information, commentary and audit evidence for month-end and year-end reporting
• Improve processes, data quality and reporting through automation and practical fixes that cut errors and manual work
