Job description

Goodman Masson is supporting a high-growth, mission-led fintech platform in its search for a Financial Controller to join its London-based finance team.

Focused on improving financial inclusion and access to essential banking services, the business is at an exciting stage in its growth journey and offers a dynamic, high-impact environment. This is a critical hire for the platform, responsible for overseeing day-to-day financial operations, leading a team, and helping to establish scalable infrastructure as the business continues to expand.

This role reports directly into the CFO and offers a broad blend of operational and strategic responsibility — spanning financial reporting, regulatory compliance, process improvement, and cashflow forecasting — alongside the opportunity to support on M&A and fundraising activity.

The ideal candidate will be hands-on, delivery-focused, and energised by working in a lean, fast-paced environment.

This is an outstanding opportunity to step into a leadership role within a purpose-driven fintech and help shape the financial foundations of a business with strong backing and meaningful societal impact.

Please note: candidates must be immediately available or on a short notice period. Unfortunately, the company is not able to offer visa sponsorship for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a team of five across financial accounting, AP/AR, and regulatory reporting, fostering a high-performance culture with a focus on pace, accuracy, and collaboration;
  • Oversee monthly and annual reporting cycles, including group consolidation, intercompany reconciliations, board reporting packs, and audit management;
  • Manage FCA/PRA submissions in collaboration with compliance, ensuring adherence to accounting standards (UK GAAP / IFRS) and maintaining strong relationships with auditors and tax advisers;
  • Lead cashflow forecasting, payments oversight, and treasury operations;
  • Strengthen internal controls, drive process improvements, and lead automation initiatives to build scalable finance infrastructure;
  • Partner with the CFO on fundraising, due diligence, and M&A, while collaborating with FP&A to align actuals with forecasts and support data-driven decision-making.

Skills & Experience:

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA / ACCA) with strong post-qualification experience, with a background being trained in practice / accounting firm;
  • Experience as a Financial Controller or a strong Finance Manager ready to step up, ideally within high-growth or regulated environments;
  • Proven ability to lead and develop small to medium-sized teams within a hands-on, fast-paced setting;
  • Strong technical accounting expertise, including group reporting and balance sheet control
  • Proactive and delivery-oriented mindset, with a track record of working effectively in high-change environments;
  • Excellent Excel / Google Sheets skills and knowledge of accounting platforms such as Xero, NetSuite or similar;
  • Confident communicator with the ability to build strong relationships across teams and seniority levels.
