Qualifications

• Accountant with 10-15 years of experience with a minimum of 5 years as a Financial Controller.
• Experience leading financial strategies.
• Strong governance knowledge including the development of governance frameworks.
• Proficient in Excel.
• Experience within the UK domestic energy industry is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and support the preparation of monthly Management Accounts and reporting packs ensuring accurate and timely information.
• Continually enhance the month-end financial accounting and reporting process to improve efficiency and visibility.
• Own and manage the financial performance of the business and ensure that appropriate KPIs are developed and monitored.
• Support and challenge the business to continue to deliver a low cost operating model while achieving growth targets.
• Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of statutory accounts and lead the external audit process.

The Role

Financial Controller at SO ENERGY

Reporting to our CFO, Mark Eldridge, we seek a Financial Controller to shape our business strategy. This role oversees accounting, reporting, governance, and supports departmental financial understanding to enhance performance and strategic objectives. The ideal candidate will see beyond numbers, understand trends, and communicate insights effectively.

Responsibilities include:

• Oversee monthly Management Accounts and reports
• Enhance financial processes for efficiency
• Manage financial performance and KPIs
• Upskill management on financial and commercial performance
• Support low-cost operations and growth strategies
• Develop commercial strategies with the CFO and sales team
• Optimize cash flows and manage funding needs
• Maintain governance and control frameworks
• Coordinate with group policies and external audits

Ideal candidate profile:

• Accountant with 10-15 years’ experience, including 5+ as Financial Controller
• Experience leading financial strategies and governance frameworks
• Strong reporting, analytics, and stakeholder management skills
• Experience in UK energy industry is advantageous
