Base pay range

W&A are delighted to be working exclusively with a Facilities Management business based in West Lothian, as they look to recruit a Financial Controller in a newly created position.

Part of a large, successful, multifaceted group, the role will take responsibility of end‑to‑end finance of one of the Group’s most profitable divisions, leading a small but experienced finance team.

The Financial Controller role will have the opportunity to grow and support additional Group Finance activity and General Management responsibilities, potentially getting involved in future acquisitions and strategic work.

The role will be highly visible and, whilst being ‘Hands On’, will also be involved at Board level within the Senior Management Team, work closely with the business and have a strong commercial element to it.

As an individual, you will need to bring a strong technical and commercial awareness to the role and will be able to present confidently at a senior level.

Key Responsibilities
  • Produce monthly management accounts, variance analysis, and financial reporting for senior leadership
  • Prepare annual budgets and periodic forecasts; monitor performance against targets
  • Liaison with clients, calculating and managing project income and cost increases
  • Ensure accurate and timely month‑end and year‑end close
  • Support statutory accounts preparation and liaise with external auditors
  • Develop and improve internal financial controls, processes and reporting tools
  • Provide financial & commercial insight to support decision‑making across the business
  • Preparation of cash flow projections
  • Lead, mentor and develop the finance team to ensure high performance and engagement
  • Partner with operations, procurement and other departments to improve efficiency and control costs
  • Support the development of finance systems, automation and process improvements
Background and Experience
  • Applicants must hold a Professional Accountancy qualification
  • Experience of producing end‑to‑end Financial & Management Accounts with the ability to be ‘Hands On’
  • Strong communicator, confident presenter and able to build relationships out with finance
  • Line Management desirable but not essential. Must be able to lead, prepare and organise a small finance team
  • Ideally tech savvy with strong Excel skills and the ability to look at getting the best out of a relatively new finance system (Microsoft – Business Central)
  • The role could be suited to either someone who is practice trained and now working in Industry but looking to take the next step up, or perhaps someone already close to this level but looking for a new challenge with the opportunity to grow with both the role and business

Although there is flexibility to work at home, this is predominantly a site‑based role in a fairly unique setting.
