Job summary

Aspiring Liverpool‑based property business seeks a Financial Controller to lead the finance function from their City Centre offices. This permanent, full‑time role focuses on financial reporting, budgeting and cash flow management, with payroll, VAT and year‑end duties handled in house.

You will oversee a finance team, build robust controls, and partner with senior leadership to influence business growth. 5‑day onsite role in a modern city centre office with opportunities for development.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant or equivalent status.
• Experience producing management accounts and budgeting.
• Strong VAT, payroll and year‑end accounting knowledge.
• Experience building and developing finance teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead the finance and accounts team to produce accurate monthly management accounts and reports.
• Manage cash flow forecasting, budgeting and financial planning.
• Oversee payroll, VAT returns and statutory reporting requirements.
• Maintain robust financial controls and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Collaborate with operational teams to deliver accurate financial reporting.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency gains.

Our client is an ambitious and expanding property management business based in Liverpool City Centre, managing a diverse portfolio of residential developments across the UK. Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead their finance function and play a key role in supporting the business's future success. Working closely with the Directors and Senior Management Team, you will be responsible for financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow management, payroll, statutory compliance, and the ongoing development of the finance team.

What You'll Be Doing

• Leading, managing and developing the finance and accounts team.
• Producing accurate monthly management accounts and financial reports.
• Managing cash flow forecasting, budgeting and financial planning.
• Overseeing payroll, VAT returns and statutory reporting requirements.
• Monitoring business performance against budget and identifying key variances.
• Maintaining robust financial controls and ensuring data integrity.
• Managing supplier payments, reconciliations and financial processes.
• Supporting annual accounts preparation and liaising with external accountants.
• Partnering with operational teams to deliver accurate financial reporting.
• Identifying opportunities for process improvement and increased efficiency.
• Providing financial insight to support strategic business decisions.

You will ideally have:

• Previous experience as a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or similar senior finance professional.
• Qualified, part-qualified, or qualified by experience status.
• Strong experience producing management accounts, budgets and cash flow forecasts.
• Excellent knowledge of VAT, payroll and year-end accounting procedures.
• Experience managing and developing finance teams.
• Strong financial controls and balance sheet reconciliation experience.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience using accounting software, ideally Xero.
• The ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Strong communication skills with a proactive and professional approach.

Desirable Experience:

Experience within property management, block management or residential property would be highly advantageous, particularly knowledge of: Residential service charge accounting.

• Client money and service charge bank accounts.
• Section 20B requirements and industry best practice.
• Resident and Sage property management systems.
• Multi-company and intercompany accountingenvironments.
