Financial Controller

Location: Lincoln

Salary: A£50,000 - A£75,000 per annum

We are seeking a dynamic and ambitious Financial Controller to join our growing business. This is a pivotal role within our organisation, offering the opportunity to lead a small finance team, contribute to strategic decision-making at the senior management level, and play a key role in shaping the future of our business.

As the Financial Controller, you will not only oversee the day-to-day financial operations but also act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership. Key responsibilities of the Financial Controller:

  1. Leadership: Manage, mentor, and develop a small finance team, fostering a culture of collaboration and high performance.
  2. Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  3. Strategic Contribution: Provide insightful financial analysis and recommendations to senior management, supporting strategic decision-making.
  4. Budgets & Forecasting: Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process, aligning financial plans with business objectives.
  5. Cash Flow Management: Monitor and optimise cash flow, working capital, and liquidity to ensure the financial health of the business.
  6. Internal Controls: Implement and maintain robust financial controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance.
  7. Taxation & Compliance: Oversee tax filings and ensure adherence to UK tax laws and reporting requirements.
  8. Audit Management: Coordinate with external auditors to ensure smooth year-end audits.
  9. Ad-Hoc Projects: Support senior management with financial projects, system improvements, and business initiatives.

Qualifications & Skills for the Financial Controller:

  1. Professional qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) - Part-qualified candidates with strong, relevant experience will also be considered.
  2. Proven experience in a Financial Controller role or similar senior finance position.
  3. Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop others.
  4. Excellent financial analysis and reporting skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
  5. Proficiency in financial software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  6. Solid understanding of UK tax regulations, including VAT, corporation tax, and PAYE.
  7. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate at all levels.
  8. Ambitious mindset, with the drive to grow into a Finance Director role.

Desirable skills for the Financial Controller:

  1. Experience with financial systems implementation or upgrades
  2. Knowledge of payroll and pension schemes
  3. Experience in a fast-paced or growing business environment
