ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Leadership

  • Actively participate in senior leadership activities and initiatives, collaborating cross-functionally to support wider business objectives and performance.
  • Regularly analyse financial and operational performance, provide reports to the board with financial modelling, long-term forecasting, and insights for increasing profitability and productivity.
  • Influence business strategies by Identifying opportunities to streamline/improve operational processes.
  • Play a key role in strategic initiatives including funding opportunities, system implementations, and acquisitions & mergers.
  • Actively protect and evolve the business' culture, maintaining the purposeful, resilient, and united ethos as it grows.

Finance Department Leadership:

  • Take ownership of the business' finances, controlling budgets, and overseeing cashflow forecasts, and capital management.
  • Lead, manage, and professionally develop a small finance team and department.
  • Work closely with the business' partnered accountancy firm, overseeing their production of draft annual accounts, returns, and any other relevant activities.
  • Lead day-to-day financial operations including payroll, pensions, VAT, HMRC payments, invoicing, cash management, month-end, etc.
  • Ensure the business' financial compliance and adherence of relevant laws & regulations, and risks are effectively managed with mitigation plans and provisions are in place.
  • Take responsibility for the small internal HR function, and own the relationship with the external HR agency, leveraging their services when necessary.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years' experience within a Senior Finance role, (Head of Finance, Financial Controller) ideally within an SME.
  • Relevant financial qualifications e.g. University Degree/ACA/ACCA/CIMA/CIPFA.
  • Previous hands-on experience of bid writing, business funding, acquisitions, and mergers, including due diligence and post-acquisition company integration.
  • Previous leadership experience across small, cross-functional teams.
  • Commercially astute with experience of forming strategies to increase profitability and improve operational processes.
  • Competent and comfortable using financial/accounting platforms and systems e.g. Xero, or similar.
  • Meticulous and exceptionally organised, with a natural ability to remain composed under pressure.
  • Clear, confident, and engaging communicator with experience of building strong relationships and working cohesively with key stakeholders.
  • Proactive and innovative with a forward-thinking mindset.
  • UK resident with unrestricted right to work in the UK; please note that we cannot offer visa sponsorship for overseas candidates.

We are searching for an ambitious and highly motivated Financial Controller to lead our client's finance department, drive innovation, and help shape the future of their business.

You will lead a small multidisciplinary team, including Finance and HR, and be responsible for controlling budgets, managing the relationship/outputs from the partnered accountancy firm, whilst keeping the board up to date with legal regulations and ensuring compliance and risk is effectively managed.

The role is a hands-on position within a dynamic, award-winning, and growing SaaS business. Previous senior leadership experience, practical experience of acquisitions & high-value projects, and business strategy influence will set the successful candidate in great position for success!
