Job summary

Talent Sure Recruitment Limited is seeking a fully qualified Financial Controller to take ownership of financial management for a major warehousing operation in Henstridge, Somerset, with occasional visits to Shaftesbury.

Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will lead month-end accounting, drive process improvements, ensure IFRS/FRS compliance, and partner with operational stakeholders to deliver robust financial insight and governance.

Qualifications

• Professional qualification as ACA/ACCA/CIMA.
• Strong technical accounting knowledge including IFRS/FRS and tax compliance.
• Experience in management accounting and financial reporting within warehousing/logistics is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation of month-end management accounts and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Highlight risks and opportunities in monthly commentary.
• Drive site efficiency projects and KPI development with actionable insights.
• Oversee budgeting and active business partnering with operational stakeholders.
• Strengthen internal financial controls and reporting accuracy using WMS.
• Provide leadership coverage for Head of Finance when required.

Financial Controller

Location: Henstridge, Somerset (with visits to Shaftesbury)

Position: Full-Time, Permanent (Office-Based)

Hours: Monday – Friday (9:00am – 5:00pm)

Salary: £70,000 – £75,000 per annum (Depending on experience)

About the Opportunity

We are recruiting on behalf of a long-established, highly respected commercial group with a strong team culture. They are seeking a commercially minded, hands on Financial Controller to take full financial ownership of a key operational warehousing entity based in Henstridge.

Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, this role blends high-level strategic oversight with day-to-day operational accounting. You will lead site-level management accounting across large-scale warehousing operations (over 20,000 pallet spaces), drive process efficiencies, and ensure full compliance with financial standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Entity Ownership: Lead the preparation of month-end management accounts, maintain clean balance sheet reconciliations, and highlight risks and opportunities within monthly commentary.
• Operational Insight: Drive site efficiency projects, including activity-based costing, scenario planning, and the development of monthly KPIs with actionable commentary.
• Compliance & Standards: Ensure company adherence to FRS/IFRS accounting requirements, GDPR frameworks, and relevant tax, VAT, and duty obligations in liaison with the Head of Finance.
• Budgeting & Partnering: Oversee entity budgets, providing active business partnering to operational stakeholders and feeding accurate data into consolidated group budgets.
• Process & Controls: Review and strengthen internal financial controls, leveraging Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) to improve reporting accuracy and safeguards.
• Departmental Support: Act as a subject matter expert on finance projects, support the wider finance team, and provide leadership cover for the Head of Finance when required.

What We Are Looking For

We are seeking a versatile, fully qualified finance professional who brings both technical accounting rigour and strong operational awareness.

Key Qualifications & Attributes

• Professional Qualification: Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA).
• Technical Expertise: Solid understanding of FRS/IFRS reporting, management accounting, and general tax/duty compliance.
• Sector Background: Experience within industrial, manufacturing, FMCG, or logistics/warehousing environments is highly desirable.
• Systems & Data Literacy: Advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities alongside hands-on experience using Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and core accounting platforms.
• Stock Accounting: Knowledge or practical experience in stock accounting is beneficial.
• Communication & Flexibility: Excellent interpersonal skills with the confidence to explain financial insights clearly to non-finance management and adapt quickly as business needs change.
