Fletcher George seeks an experienced Financial Controller or Head of Finance to lead the group’s finance function in Surrey. Reporting to owners/directors, you will ensure robust reporting, controls and financial insight to support strategic decisions.

The role is senior and autonomous, requiring close collaboration with owners and a broad remit across group finance, payroll, audits and compliance.

Qualifications

• Qualified as ACA, ACCA, ICAS, CIMA, SAICA or equivalent.
• Experience at Financial Controller/Head of Finance or equivalent.
• Full right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Financial Controller or Head of Finance to join a highly successful, established and privately owned multi-site Group in Surrey.

Reporting directly to the owners and directors, you will take overall responsibility for the Group's finance function, providing accurate financial information and commercial insight to support decision-making.

This is a senior, autonomous role within a successful family-owned business where your expertise will be trusted and your contribution will have a genuine impact. It would suit someone who enjoys being close to the business and taking ownership of a broad finance function.

The Role

You will oversee the finance team, ensuring robust financial controls, accurate reporting and effective financial management across the Group.

Key responsibilities include:

• Taking overall responsibility for the accuracy and integrity of Group financial reporting
• Preparing and overseeing monthly management accounts and statutory accounts
• Leading budgeting, forecasting and cash flow planning
• Reviewing performance against budget, identifying variances and providing commentary to the directors
• Providing meaningful financial insight to support commercial and strategic decisions
• Monitoring profitability and identifying opportunities to improve financial performance
• Reviewing and strengthening financial processes, policies and controlsManaging and supporting the finance team, ensuring workloads and deadlines are effectively managed
• Coordinating the annual audit and liaising with external accountants, auditors, banks, insurers, tax advisers and other professional advisers
• Ensuring appropriate financial, tax and regulatory compliance, including managing HMRC queries
• Reviewing payroll and maintaining appropriate records
• Managing insurance requirements and claims where required
• Working closely with the directors on commercial, financial and ad hoc projects

About You

You will be an experienced finance professional, ideally operating at Financial Controller, Head of Finance or equivalent level, with the confidence to take ownership while maintaining a commercially focused approach.

You will ideally have:

• Strong experience across management accounts, statutory reporting, budgeting and forecasting
• Excellent cash flow management and financial control skills
• The ability to interpret financial information and communicate it clearly to owners and senior management
• Experience managing or supervising a finance team
• A sound understanding of taxation, audit and financial compliance
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
• A practical, hands-on and commercially minded approach
• The confidence to work autonomously and build trusted relationships with the owners

Ideally, you will be fully qualified ACA, ACCA, ICAS, CIMA, SAICA or equivalent, with a strong track record in a senior finance position. You will also need full right to work in the UK.

Salary & Benefits

£70,000 £90,000 + comprehensive benefits package

The salary banding has been set by Fletcher George as a guide, although candidates slightly outside this range may be considered where experience is particularly well aligned.
