We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Financial Controller to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the organisation, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements. This role requires strong leadership abilities and a deep understanding of financial management principles.

Purpose Of The Role

To lead the Finance team, ensuring that all financial transactions, activities and records are completed accurately and on time, including daily, month-end, quarterly and year-end reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To be a key member of the Senior Leadership team, working closely with the MD, Senior Managers of the parent company and the site management team on both strategic and operational issues.
  • To lead the Finance team, recruiting, managing, appraising and training own direct reports.
  • To improve operational management systems, processes and best practices through a culture of continuous improvement, effective leadership and communication.
  • To manage Finance and general management related project work of varied content and complexity from start through to completion.
  • To provide advice and support on finance matters to employees across the business where qualified.
  • To prepare and present Company financial results for discussion at monthly management meetings.
Monthly/Quarterly/Annual Accounts

  • Responsible for the preparation and review of monthly management accounts, and annual statutory accounts.
  • Responsible for the preparation of budgets and forecasts for submission to the parent company, and for the detailed analysis of variances on a monthly basis.
  • To upload financial information and detailed narrative on results to the parent company’s Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) ERP system, with full compliance to filing deadlines for group parent company.
  • To monitor and review cashflow and cashbook activities, take any appropriate actions, and report to the Managing Director and parent company.
  • To oversee all transactional finance activities such as purchase ledger, sales ledger and credit control, ensuring that all financial transactions are properly recorded, filed, and reported.
  • To ensure payroll, expenses, employee benefits, and HMRC reporting are undertaken in a timely manner. Liaison with the MD and HR Manager on associated matters.
  • To ensure fixed asset additions/disposals are recorded accurately in the accounts and oversee the preparation of capital expenditure requests (“AFE’s”) with the required ROI justification.
  • To ensure postings, journals, inter-company transactions and balance sheet reconciliations are carried out.
  • To ensure the UK VAT return, Intrastat and corporation tax instalments are calculated and filed to meet HRMC deadlines.
  • To support the Systems and Compliance Officer with finance associated matters when required.
Reporting And Analysis

  • To ensure “ODBC” Microsoft-Syspro, KPI, labour analysis and any other ad-hoc reports are provided to the MD and other departments for decision-making as required.
  • To provide detailed analysis of customer product sales and margins and other financial data on a periodic basis, highlighting any financial trends both positive and negative.
  • To review all financial plans and budgets regularly to look for gross margin and operating profit enhancements.
  • To ensure finance activities are fully compliant with parent company Standard Practice Instructions (“SPI’s”), UK GAAP reporting requirements and that effective internal controls are in place for all financial activities.
  • To manage the relationship with company auditors on associated UK financial year end audit needs.
  • To collaborate with auditing services to ensure proper compliance with all regulations.
  • To establish and implement financial reporting systems which are compliant with government regulations, legislation and best practice.
  • To keep up to date with changes in financial reporting and taxation rules, instigating any changes within the business as required.
Qualifications & Key Skills

  • Qualified Chartered Accountant (ICAEW/CIMA/ACCA) (Essential)
  • Extensive experience in a finance role up to Financial Controller level, in a manufacturing environment. (Essential)
  • Manufacturing Costing Analyst Experience (Essential)
  • Good understanding of Inter-Co pricing structures (Desirable)
  • Good understanding of the full range of financial and taxation reporting requirements. (Essential)
  • Extensive experience of managing budgets, forecasts, cashflow and capex requests (Essential)
  • IT skills to include Microsoft Office, including Excel to advanced level (Essential)
  • Good experience of using a computerised finance or ERP system (Essential)
  • Knowledge of Hyperion Financial Management (“HFM”) software or similar (or willing to learn). (Desirable)
  • Experience of leading, managing and developing staff (Essential)
  • Presentation skills with experience of providing information to internal and external groups (Essential)
  • Good organisational and time-management skills (Essential)
