Job summary

Capio Recruitment Limited is seeking a Financial Controller on a 12–13 month fixed-term contract to cover maternity within the finance function in Birmingham. You will lead a broad, hands‑on finance role with responsibility for financial controls, reporting and partnering with senior leadership.

The ideal candidate will be ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified, with strong experience in financial reporting, budgeting and cash flow, and a good grasp of FCA regulations within financial services.

Qualifications

• Qualified or equivalent experience in a recognised accounting body.
• Strong experience in financial reporting, management accounts and financial control.
• Experience in financial services, wealth management, financial planning or IFA environment is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Oversee monthly management accounts, financial reporting, reconciliations and financial controls.
• Manage budgets, forecasts and cash flow, providing insight to support decision‑making.
• Oversee adviser fee, commission and client income reconciliation.
• Manage payroll, supplier payments, client invoicing and credit control.
• Work with HR, external accountants and auditors on payroll, tax and statutory requirements.
• Ensure financial processes remain compliant with FCA requirements and relevant legislation.
• Provide commercial financial analysis and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and controls.
• Support the Finance Director and senior leadership team with financial strategy, business growth and potential acquisitions.

Job description

An established and growing financial services business is looking to appoint a Financial Controller on a 12–13 month fixed-term contract, providing maternity cover within the finance function.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Finance Manager, Financial Controller or Senior Management Accountant to take on a broad, hands‑on role with ownership of the day‑to‑day finance function, working closely with senior leadership to ensure strong financial controls, accurate reporting and effective financial management.

The Role

• Oversee monthly management accounts, financial reporting, reconciliations and financial controls

About You

• Strong budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management experience
• Good understanding of FCA regulations and financial‑services compliance
• Strong Excel and financial systems experience, with excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills
• Confident working with senior stakeholders and providing commercially focused financial insight
