Financial Analyst (VAT Compliance)

6 Month Contract

Manchester (Onsite)

220 - 270 Per day Inside IR35

Our client, a diverse business, requires VAT filings in various jurisdictions globally. We are seeking an energetic and enthusiastic VAT Compliance Tax Analyst to join its International Indirect Tax Compliance team. The Tax Department operates in a fast-paced, team-focused, and dynamic environment. This position will be responsible for the preparation of EMEA VAT returns and related filings for France, Italy, Spain, and Sweden. The role may also involve assisting in providing data to tax authorities and other VAT compliance activities related to Amazon or third-party sellers.

The work may include mainstream VAT compliance activities, supporting internal and external audits, and liaising with colleagues in VAT Compliance, Controllership, Tax, and the wider business. Candidates should have an understanding of financial systems and technical accounting awareness. Involvement in projects impacting VAT compliance is also expected. The successful candidate will take ownership of their activities, identify process improvements, and drive positive change across the organization.

Key job responsibilities
  1. Prepare, analyze, review, and submit VAT returns and related filings for France, Italy, Spain, and Sweden.
  2. Prepare, analyze, review, and submit Intrastat and ECSL returns as necessary.
  3. Organize VAT registrations across various jurisdictions.
  4. Assist with VAT compliance queries from businesses operating across EMEA.
  5. Map VAT processes, identify areas for improvement, and develop solutions for VAT issues.
  6. Prepare and review month-end VAT account reconciliations and proactively resolve aged items.
  7. Support internal and external audits through data analysis.
  8. Provide VAT compliance support to colleagues, especially accounting teams, and contribute to the preparation of Tax Requirement Documents for tech teams.
  9. Lead and participate in cross-functional projects, focusing on automation and in-housing.
  10. Support business growth and onboarding of new entities to VAT compliance processes.
Basic qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in tax, accounting, finance, or related field.
  • Experience in VAT advisory or compliance roles with basic VAT knowledge.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially MS Excel.
Preferred qualifications
  • Knowledge of Italian or French languages is beneficial.
  • Recognized accounting or tax qualification (e.g., CIMA, ACCA, ACA, AAT, or similar).
