Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is seeking a Financial Analyst to support the Financial Reporting Manager with concession financials, budgeting, forecasting and statutory reporting. You will contribute to improving financial processes and coach junior team members.

You will work on monthly, quarterly and annual cycles, perform variance analysis, prepare management information and liaise with external auditors to ensure timely sign‑offs. The role offers hybrid working in the UK.

Qualifications

  • Qualified to degree level (minimum of 2.1).
  • Preferably a fully qualified accountant or progress toward ACA/ACCA/CIMA.
  • Experience in complex technical accounting and consolidation advantageous.
  • Analytical thinker with attention to detail and curiosity.
  • Strong and adaptable communicator with multi-priority management.
  • Up to date with FR S101/102 and IFRS.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in monthly, quarterly and year-end reporting cycles with timely financial information and variance analysis.
  • Prepare quarterly forecasts and annual budgets with commentary.
  • Support statutory accounts for investment holding entities and liaise with auditors.
  • Update financial models and apply accounting overlays.
  • Contribute to risk reporting and internal control processes.
  • Support graduate development and engagement within the team.

About the role

Working with us, here at Balfour Beatty, your role as Financial Analyst will be required to support the Financial Reporting Manager in the timely preparation, analysis and reporting of concession financials to the BB Group. The Financial Analyst plays a key role in management and statutory reporting cycles, budgeting and forecasting, and the continuous improvement of financial processes. Additionally, the role involve supporting, motivating, and inspiring the development of team members reporting into the role.

What you'll be doing
  • Assist in monthly, quarterly and half year/full year reporting cycles by:
    • Preparing accurate and timely financial information, variance analysis, and supporting commentary for concession financials by set deadlines and submission in HFM (including the review of external MSA provider management accounts where applicable).
    • Assisting in the preparation of quarterly forecasts and annual budgets with variance analysis and commentary for review.
    • Completing half-year and full-year reporting in line with strict BB Group reporting deadlines, including detailed HFM submission.
    • Operating the monthly swap valuation toolkit (such as FIS or similar)
  • Preparation of regular and ad hoc financial reports and analysis;
  • Coordination and preparation of appropriate backup schedules to support external auditors for financial audits.
  • Updates to financial models and application of accounting overlays;
  • Support preparation of statutory accounts investment holding legal entities, including:
    • the application of technical accounting judgements
    • working closely with external auditors and BBI directors to obtain respective approvals by Group deadlines
  • Review and submission of compliance statements for investment holding entities and use of Balfour Beatty Company Secretarial database (Blueprint)
  • Contribute to structured risk reporting by collaborating with operational teams and senior leadership team to ensure timely updates, supporting internal control processes and SBU-level risk communications.
  • Contribute to the organisation of graduate tasks, including planning, providing regular feedback on performance, and maintaining good levels of engagement
Who we're looking for

Essential -

  • Qualified to degree level (minimum of 2.1)
  • Preferably a fully qualified accountant, but candidates with significant progress toward a recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) will also be considered
  • Experience in complex technical accounting and consolidation is advantageous
  • Analytical thinker with attention to detail and intellectual curiosity
  • Flexible and able to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
  • Effective communicator, both orally and in writing
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and willing to learn
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills, able to work collaboratively with stakeholders at all levels
  • Up to date with accounting standards and financial reporting requirements (FRS101/102 and IFRS)
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement
  • Strong Microsoft Excel (Power Query), Microsoft Word skills, and HFM
