Financial Accounting Manager
Location: Edinburgh (Hybrid Working Available)
Salary: £50,000 - £55,000 (DOE)
Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week
Contract: Permanent

The Opportunity

A well-established and mission-driven organisation is seeking a qualified and experienced Financial Accounting Manager to lead on financial accounting, compliance, and reporting across a diverse group structure. This is a strategic and hands-on role, managing both people and processes to deliver high-quality financial outcomes.

This opportunity is ideal for an individual who thrives in a complex environment and enjoys leading process improvement and governance initiatives while supporting a high-performing finance team.

The Role

Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, you will be responsible for internal and external financial reporting, statutory compliance, and leading a team of financial analysts. You will also collaborate with operational accounting teams, auditors, and senior leadership to drive performance, ensure accuracy, and contribute to the organisation's strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead preparation of statutory accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, and monthly close processes
  • Oversee external reporting requirements including TRAC, HESA, and regulatory compliance returns
  • Deliver high-quality internal reporting and analytical reviews
  • Drive continuous improvements in cashflow forecasting, treasury support, and working capital management
  • Manage and mentor a team of financial analysts, embedding a culture of accountability and service excellence
  • Act as lead contact for external auditors and advisors
  • Monitor and support compliance with funding, grants, and VAT/corporation tax regulations
  • Contribute to digital transformation and system improvement projects
Who We're Looking For:
  • Professionally qualified accountant (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA)
  • Experience leading the preparation of group financial statements
  • Proven ability to manage teams and deliver process change in a large or complex organisation
  • Strong understanding of UK financial reporting standards and regulatory frameworks
  • Highly analytical with excellent problem-solving and communication skills
  • Experience in public, academic, or charity sector finance is desirable
