Financial Accounting and Reporting Lead

Salary: £55,403 - £61,939. From 1 October 2025 the salary for this role is expected to be £58,655. Once you’ve completed a probationary period (usually 6 months) you’ll be eligible to receive a pay premium allowance of £4,399 per year. This allowance is non contractual and non pensionable.

Location: Newcastle

Hours: A minimum 60% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although attendance at other locations for official business will count towards this.

The Infected Blood Compensation Authority (IBCA) was set up in response to the devastating events that occurred in the 1970s and 1980s when more than 30,000 people in the UK received contaminated blood products. The IBCA will work with people who were infected and affected by these issues, and when you join us you’ll have the opportunity to shape and design an organisation that will make a difference to the lives of thousands of people throughout the UK.

This role offers a unique opportunity for a proactive, experienced accountant, and as you’ll be leading on the production of our annual report and accounts, and ensuring the integrity of all our organisation’s financial activities, you’ll have a strong eye for detail. You’ll enjoy a wide range of important responsibilities as we provide our customers with the service they deserve – these include engaging with internal and external auditors, overseeing policy and technical accounting, and ensuring underlying information and ledgers are accurate.

Committed to ensuring our integrity and providing technical expertise and updates to non-finance staff, your responsibilities will also include leading on defining and maintaining accounting policies and controls, and monitoring the position of material balances, including the provisions related to the compensation scheme. In addition, we’ll expect you to support organisational governance, manage internal audit processes, liaise with stakeholders to deliver a robust control environment and collaborate on the submission of Whole of Government Accounts.

Skilled at managing completing priorities and planning ahead, your excellent communication and interpersonal skills will see you collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders to deliver a complex project. You’ll be working closely with the wider finance team and managing an SEO financial accountant, so we’ll expect you to be a motivating manager with the ability to support your colleagues’ professional development. It’s essential that you’re capable of managing a wide range of deliverables in a timely manner, and in order to help us establish our processes and deliver to tight timescales, you should have a flexible and adaptable approach to your work.
