Financial Accountant

Contract: Permanent, Full-Time

Location: Basingstoke or London (hybrid working with two to three days per week in the office)

Salary: £44,290 - £55,110 per annum plus benefits

What This Job Is All About

As a Financial Accountant, you’ll be a critical part of the Hawk-Eye and Sony Global Finance Accounting (SGFA) Team and will also interact regularly with the wider Sony group (Corporate Planning, Tax, Treasury and BPO). You will report directly to our Finance and Accounting Manager.

The Financial Accountant role is primarily focussed on revenue, ensuring revenue is recognised in line with the customer contracts under Sony’s Corporate Accounting Policy as per IFRS 15.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure accurate Revenue Recognition in line with customer contracts under Sony’s Corporate Accounting Policy as per IFRS 15.

  • Support early warning and forecast accuracy for significant impacts expected from revenue recognition.

  • Prepare monthly accrued & deferred revenue balance sheet reconciliations, supported by independent source and reported to SGFA and management.

  • Drive automation and efficiencies in how we manage, model, and report on revenue, customer contracts, invoicing, and debtors.

  • Partner with commercial leads, finance colleagues, and P&L owners on new deal modelling and setup; invoicing and debtor risk reporting, and forecasting and planning.

  • Be the primary contact for statutory audit for all matters concerning revenue.

  • Work with commercial leads to implement a contract management tool, capturing key sales contract financial information and documentation of separate performance obligations with the aim to support the revenue and related cost recognition and to provide improved financial reporting to senior management.

  • Support the implementation of billing and contract management tools to enable the improved and timely financial insight as well as drive customer invoice and revenue recognition automation.

Examples of Recent Projects We've Worked On
  • Built a more automated, streamlined revenue recognition model in the team’s newly implemented FP&A platform to reduce manual inputs and errors.

  • Helped structure an invoicing schedule and terms with a prospective customer to mitigate credit risks on a new project.

  • Partnered with commercial leads to create payment plans for aged debtors.

What We Need From You
Essential
  • 3+ years of accounting experience. 5+ preferred.

  • Fully or part-qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).

  • Strong understanding and demonstrated application of revenue recognition under IFRS 15.

  • Managed services contracts revenue recognition experience.

  • Strong commercial acumen and analytical skills, and solid business partnering experience.

  • Experience with project accounting or managed service account tool and/or database.

  • Microsoft Office Excel expertise.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Project management skills and ability to manage up.

Preferred
  • Strong desire for continuous improvement

  • Strong planning and organisational skills and attention to detail.

  • SAP S/4HANA experience desirable.

  • Driving & sustaining change in a lean accounting environment.

  • Experience with working with outsourced organisation partner

  • Experience with different revenue models, including revenue share, subscription, and royalties.
