Job Description Summary

Title: Financial Accountant
Location: One Vine Street, London

Overview
Lloyds Development Capital (“LDC”) is the private equity arm of Lloyds Banking Group (“LBG”). The LDC Group structure is a combination of corporate entities (operating/holding companies) and partnerships (funds and general partner).

LDC is the most active mid-market private equity investor, investing £2m-£100m in medium sized private companies with ambitious, entrepreneurial management teams with the objective is to realise capital gains by sale of these companies, typically within 3-5 years.

The Role
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious accountant with post-qualified experience in corporate reporting to join a high-calibre, collaborative environment and gain broad exposure across financial reporting, controls, business partnering and finance transformation initiatives.

Working within a close knit team, the successful candidate will report to the Financial Controller, taking ownership of key financial accounting activities while also helping to enhance finance systems, processes and reporting capabilities.

Financial Controller

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and review monthly management accounts including variance analysis and supporting reconciliations.
  • Support the delivery of statutory accounts under IFRS and year-end reporting requirements.
  • Assist with the external audit process, acting as a key point of contact for auditors.
  • Ensure the integrity of the general ledger and maintain a robust financial control environment.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Produce financial analysis and reporting to support business decision-making.
  • Review and improve existing financial processes, controls and reporting frameworks.
  • Lead and support finance systems development projects, helping to automate and streamline manual processes.
  • Oversight of AP/AR process
  • Work closely with stakeholders across the business to identify opportunities for operational and reporting improvements.
  • Support the preparation of VAT returns and FCA regulatory reporting
  • Assist with ad hoc projects and strategic initiatives as the business continues to grow and evolve.
Control Environment
  • Preparation of the month end process for the LDC Group.
  • Maintaining LDC control environment whist also complying with LBG group minimum standards (GMS).
  • Producing and maintaining monthly reconciliations to substantiate the month end balances. Proactively deliver and close out any open action points or queries.
  • Complying with controls included on the One RSA (LBG risk register).
  • Preparation of regulatory submission including FCA returns, ONS returns and the Group RWA.
  • Continuously develop and challenge existing internal controls to conform with best practice.
  • Proactively seeking to identify improvements to manual processes and management reporting information leading to higher value-added work.
Overall
  • Preparation of financial statements for corporate entities under IFRS including liaison with, and providing information to external auditors and the LBG team.
  • Support the annual statutory audit process for several corporate entities within the LDC Group by ensuring queries are resolved and workflows are delivered with agreed timeframes.
  • Continuous of development of the infrastructure and controls environment to drive increased efficiency, effectiveness, and cost management.
  • Strong understanding and maintenance of financial controls, focusing on the provision of quality management information and the integrity of the trial balance.
  • Integration of multiple accounting systems with relevant understanding of underlying data and financials.
  • Understanding the business and keeping up to speed with business developments and being able to communicate this effectively to team members and stakeholders.
  • Ad hoc analysis.
Requirements
  • Fully Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA preferred).
  • 1-2 years’ experience in management reporting and financial reporting, in private equity or chartered accounting firm preferred but not a prerequisite.
  • Preparation of audited financial statements under IFRS an advantage.
  • Strong financial accounting and technical reporting knowledge.
  • Experience working within a professional services, financial services, private equity, investment management or corporate environment would be advantageous.
  • Demonstrable experience improving finance processes, controls or systems.
  • Strong Excel and financial systems skills, with an interest in automation and continuous improvement.
  • Analytical, detail-oriented and commercially aware.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to build relationships across a range of stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated and comfortable operating within a small, hands-on finance team.
