Job summary

Northern Gas Networks (NGN) is hiring a Financial Accountant based at our Leeds office, offering hybrid working and a salary from £35,658 plus up to 5% annual bonus. You'll deliver accurate monthly and year-end reporting, assist with statutory accounts, VAT and corporation tax, and support audits across group entities.

This role is ideal for a part-qualified accountant looking to progress within a supportive finance team.

Qualifications

• Experience in a finance function, ideally within financial or management accounting.
• Strong knowledge of month-end processes, including journals, accruals, prepayments and reconciliations.
• Understanding of statutory accounts preparation, audit processes, VAT and corporation tax requirements.

Responsibilities

• Support the month-end and year-end close processes, including journals, accruals, prepayments and financial adjustments
• Prepare and reconcile balance sheet accounts, investigating and resolving reconciling items in a timely manner
• Assist with the review and analysis of financial results, highlighting key variances, trends and risks
• Manage intercompany accounting and reconciliations across group entities, ensuring accuracy and compliance
• Maintain accurate financial records and contribute to a strong financial control and governance environment
• Support the preparation of statutory accounts, tax reporting requirements and compliance activities, including VAT and corporation tax
• Coordinate audit activities by preparing supporting documentation, responding to auditor queries and meeting reporting deadlines
• Contribute to process improvements, business development and M&A activities, while providing finance support across group companies and energy asset portfolios

This is an exciting opportunity to join Northern Gas Networks (NGN) as a Financial Accountant, playing a key role in delivering accurate, timely financial reporting and supporting confident decision making across the business.

Sitting within the finance function, you will gain broad exposure across month-end reporting, statutory accounts, tax, audit and project activity, while working closely with teams across financial accounting, management accounting, tax, treasury and commercial finance.

With regular interaction across group companies, external auditors and tax advisers, this role offers a brilliant platform to build technical accounting experience in a supportive environment. It s well suited to a motivated part-qualified accountant who is keen to progress, broaden their experience and take on increased responsibility.

In this role you will

• Support the month-end and year-end close processes, including journals, accruals, prepayments and financial adjustments

We are looking for

• Part-qualified accountant or working towards ACCA or ACA qualification
• Experience in a finance function, ideally within financial or management accounting
• Good knowledge of month-end processes, including journals, accruals, prepayments and reconciliations
• Experience maintaining accurate financial records and supporting balance sheet reconciliations
• Understanding of statutory accounts preparation, audit processes, VAT and corporation tax requirements
• Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with financial data and reporting schedules
• Strong analytical, organisational and communication skills, with a keen eye for detail
• Proactive approach, eager to develop technical accounting knowledge and work across multiple entities within a complex group structure

Desirable - Experience within the energy, utilities, infrastructure or renewable sectors would be advantageous but is not essential.
