Job description

Financial Accountant – Newry – Temporary Position (Until October 2026)

We are currently recruiting for a Financial Accountant to lead the Financial Services function of a public sector organisation. This will involve managing Accounts Payable and Receivable, preparing Annual Financial Statements, ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory standards, and leading on external audits and financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

·Lead and manage the Financial Services team (AP & AR)

·Prepare Annual Financial Statements, VAT returns, and statutory reports

·Oversee cash flow forecasting and monitor financial compliance

·Act as key liaison for external audits

·Support financial planning and the implementation of internal controls

·Contribute to system improvements and staff development

Essential Criteria:

·Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW, CIPFA, etc.)

·Minimum 2 years’ experience in financial accounting covering at least 5 areas (e.g., financial statements, VAT, fixed assets, cash flow)

·Experience managing a team and working with auditors

·Strong IT skills, including MS Office and integrated finance systems

·Ability to travel between sites (car owner/driver or alternative transport access)

Desirable:

·Public sector experience

·Knowledge of HMRC regulations, including VAT partial exemption
