Financial Accountant
Location: Leeds (Hybrid Minimum 4 days in office)
Salary: Up to GBP55,000 DOE

We are currently partnering with a leading organisation in the waste management industry to recruit an experienced and fully qualified Financial Accountant. Based in Leeds, this is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-paced, operationally focused finance team with wide-reaching responsibility across financial reporting, VAT, recharges, and cash management.

Role Purpose
The primary focus of this role is to ensure accurate and timely financial accounting and reporting, particularly across balance sheet, VAT, recharges, and fixed assets.

Key Responsibilities

As a Financial Accountant, you will be responsible for:

  • Accurately accounting for fixed assets and leases across multiple UK entities within the group

  • Preparing and submitting quarterly VAT returns and associated accounting entries

  • Managing central cost control and intercompany recharges including collating IT, People, HR and Marketing costs and raising monthly recharges to trading businesses

  • Completing and reviewing balance sheet reconciliations related to fixed assets, leases, VAT, and central costs

  • Supporting the Finance Director with cash management, including cash forecasting, reviewing payment approvals, and maintaining oversight of bank accounts

  • Supervising a Finance Assistant responsible for bank reconciliations

  • Investigating and resolving financial queries and discrepancies, working closely with the wider finance team

  • Presenting accurate and timely monthly results to the Financial Controller and Finance Director

  • Assisting with annual budgeting and external audit processes

  • Contributing to the successful implementation and embedding of a new ERP system

About You

We are looking for a proactive and technically strong Financial Accountant who is confident working both independently and as part of a wider team. The ideal candidate will bring:

  • A full accountancy qualification (ACA / ACCA / CIMA)

  • Strong Excel skills with the ability to manage and manipulate large datasets

  • Financial control and reconciliation experience

  • Familiarity with SAGE accounting software (preferred, not essential)

  • A collaborative working style and clear communication skills

  • A practical and solution-oriented mindset
