Job Title: Financial Accountant

Location: Old Park Farm, Chelmsford, CM3 1LN, Essex.

Reports to: Finance Manager

Department: Finance

Role Overview

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Financial Accountant to join our finance team. This role is pivotal in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial records, with a particular focus on VAT compliance, month-end processes, and collaborative financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation and submission of VAT returns, ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations and deadlines.
  • Maintain and execute month-end procedures, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and prepayments.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts and financial statements.
  • Work closely with other members of the finance team to support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Provide documentation and support during internal and external audits.
  • Identify and implement improvements to financial processes and controls.
  • Support the Finance Manager with financial analysis and project work as required.

Candidate Profile

  • Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of VAT regulations and accounting principles.
  • Experience in agriculture, property, or rural estates is advantageous but not essential.
  • Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience working with Xero accounts software is desirable.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
