Financial Accountant (Social Housing Sector Experience Essential)

Location: Remote role but need to live within 1 hour of Peterborough due to training and meetings as required

Salary: Up to £50K + Excellent Benefits

Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent

About the Role

At ACR, we are proud to work on behalf of a well-established and mission-driven organisation in the social housing sector, seeking a Financial Accountant to join their Finance team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a finance professional who is technically strong, proactive, and ready to lead on statutory accounts, tax returns, and financial compliance within a sector that truly makes a difference.

What You'll Be Doing
  1. Lead the preparation of quarterly financial returns, annual statutory accounts, and audit schedules.
  2. Deliver VAT, CIS, and corporation tax returns, supporting internal compliance and maximising gift aid.
  3. Oversee control accounts, monthly reconciliations, and cash flow.
  4. Manage one direct report (Assistant Accountant), fostering development and accuracy.
  5. Liaise with auditors, HMRC, funders, and regulatory bodies.
  6. Maintain and improve internal financial controls, policies, and fraud prevention protocols.
  7. Deputise for the Service Manager, Financial Accounts when required.
What We’re Looking For
  1. Proven experience within the social housing sector.
  2. AAT Level 4 (minimum), ideally working towards ACCA/CIMA or already qualified.
  3. In-depth knowledge of statutory accounting, VAT, and group consolidation.
  4. Experience with Open Accounts, Castleton, or similar finance systems.
  5. Strong Excel skills (including pivot tables and advanced formulas).
  6. A natural communicator with the confidence to advise stakeholders across the business.
