Finance Technical Manager (Group Financial Accounting)

Up to £75,000 plus private healthcare, a pension with up to 10% employer contributions and more excellent benefits (Work Level 5)

Manchester city centre - in this role you'll work in a hybrid way splitting your time between home and the office (find out more about our hybrid working policy at https://jobs.coop.co.uk/hybrid-working-policy).

We're looking for a Finance Technical Manager to join our Group Financial Control team. In this role, you'll provide technical accounting expertise across our Co-op, supporting key accounting matters, impairment assessments, and external financial reporting. If you have strong technical accounting knowledge, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for continuous improvement, this is a great opportunity to build your career with a business that puts people at the heart of its strategy.

Why this role matters

As a Finance Technical Manager, you'll play a key role in strengthening accounting and financial control across our Co-op. You'll work closely with colleagues across our business to implement efficient and robust financial control processes, provide technical accounting advice and support, and ensure our accounting policies remain well documented and consistently applied. You'll also support the preparation of our annual and interim report and accounts, subsidiary statutory accounts, and key technical accounting assessments, helping to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of our financial reporting.

What you'll do
  • Prepare half-year and full-year impairment models for Food Retail and other business areas
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the business to gather key inputs, and analyse and interpret model outputs to support impairment assessments
  • Act as a key contact for technical accounting support and advice to the wider finance community and key stakeholders, including the finance leadership team and CFO
  • Update accounting policies and own the preparation of technical accounting papers as required
  • Work with our external auditors on the audit of key technical accounting matters
  • Play a key role in the production of the Co-op annual and interim report and accounts
  • Produce or review subsidiary statutory accounts prepared by the Group FC team
What you'll bring
  • An accountancy qualification and proven post qualified experience (ACA, CIMA, ACCA, or equivalent)
  • Experience in IFRS accounting standards and reporting
  • Strong communication skills, able to engage with colleagues across all levels of the business
  • Strong Excel skills with the ability to manage large quantities of data
  • Good time management skills, able to manage their own workload in a fast-paced environment
  • Clear thinking and comfortable with complexity
Why Co-op?
  • An annual bonus (based on personal and business performance)
  • 28 days holiday (rising to 32 with service) plus bank holidays
  • A pension with up to 10% employer contributions
  • Private healthcare
  • Access to a subsidised onsite gym (at our Manchester HQ)
  • 30% discount on Co-op products and 10% off other brands
  • Stream - early access to a percentage of your pay as you earn it
  • Virtual healthcare including GP appointments, mental health support, nutrition and fitness advice
  • 24/7 colleague support service
  • Training and support for your development and career progression
  • Cycle-to-work scheme
