Job description

Finance Project Contractor 6 months Data Migration

This 6 month Finance Project Contractor role sits in the London finance function of a global multi strategy investment management firm.

The Project Contractor will provide hands‑on Finance support for legacy data validation, cleansing, mapping and reconciliation as part of the Oracle OMNI ERP implementation. The role will focus on data extracted from the current SunSystems environment, helping ensure that Finance data is complete, accurate, appropriately cleansed, mapped and ready for migration into Oracle. Working with Finance process owners, business users, the ERP project team, IT and implementation partners, the contractor will take ownership of assigned data activities, identify and investigate exceptions, prepare decision‑ready analysis, document validation evidence and **escalate** matters requiring business judgement. The role is intended to reduce dependency on senior Finance users by resolving detailed data matters wherever agreed rules and available evidence allow.

Legacy data review and validation
  • Review finance data extracted from SunSystems, including General ledger data, Chart of accounts, Legal entities, Cost centres, Analysis codes and reporting dimensions, Vendor master data, Customer master data, Open AP / AR items, Trial balances and account balances
  • Validate completeness, accuracy, and reasonableness of extracted data
  • Identify duplicate, dormant, incomplete, inconsistent, or obsolete records
  • Review data quality issues and determine whether they can be corrected based on agreed rules or require Finance stakeholder input
  • Prepare exception reports for senior Finance review
Data cleansing and remediation
  • Support clean‑up of legacy finance data before migration to Oracle
  • Apply agreed cleansing rules consistently across master data and transactional/open‑item data
  • Track data issues, clean‑up actions, owners, and resolution status
  • Support decision‑making on whether records should be retained, amended, merged, archived, or excluded from migration
  • Identify recurring data quality issues and recommend practical remediation steps
Mapping and reconciliation
  • Support mapping of SunSystems data structures to Oracle structures, including Chart of accounts, Entities, Cost centres, Intercompany codes, Reporting dimensions, Analysis codes
  • Validate that mapping logic is applied consistently across data sets
  • Perform reconciliations between SunSystems reports and extracted data, Extracted data and transformation files, Transformation files and Oracle‑loaded data
  • Investigate and explain reconciliation differences
  • Prepare reconciliation summaries and supporting documentation for Finance sign‑off
Documentation and audit trail
  • Document data cleansing rules, mapping assumptions, validation procedures, and sign‑off evidence
  • Maintain clear records of data issues, decisions made, and outstanding exceptions
  • Support preparation of migration control documentation and evidence for audit or governance review
  • Ensure that key Finance decisions are captured clearly for future reference
Stakeholder support
  • Work with senior Finance users to understand how legacy data is used for accounting, reporting, and control purposes
  • Structure issues in a decision‑ready format to minimize time required from senior stakeholders
  • Liaise with project teams, IT, implementation partners, and business users to resolve data‑related issues
  • Communicate clearly and practically on status, risks, blockers, and required decisions
Regulatory responsibilities
  • Adhere to the FCA's Conduct Rules, understanding that they set basic standards of good personal conduct
Experience required

Candidates may have gained the required experience through an in‑house Finance role, a project or interim assignment, or recent training within an audit firm. Candidates with more limited post‑qualification experience will be considered where they demonstrate strong accounting fundamentals, analytical capability, systems aptitude and readiness to take ownership of detailed data work.

  • Qualified Accountant, for example ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA or an internationally recognised equivalent. The level of post‑qualification experience is less important than demonstrable analytical capability, systems aptitude and delivery ownership
  • Strong accounting experience across areas such as general ledger, close, reconciliations, financial reporting, audit, controls or master data
  • Strong understanding of chart of accounts, legal entities, cost centres, reporting dimensions and Finance master data
  • Practical experience validating, analysing and reconciling Finance data, including identifying inconsistencies, duplicates, gaps, unusual balances or incomplete records
  • Experience preparing reconciliations, exception reports, issue trackers and supporting documentation
  • Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, data comparison and analysis of large data sets
  • Data cleansing, data migration, finance transformation or ERP implementation experience is advantageous but not essential where the candidate demonstrates strong transferable capability
  • SunSystems or Infor SunSystems experience is highly preferred; candidates with other legacy ERP experience and the ability to understand data structures quickly will also be considered
  • Oracle ERP or Oracle Fusion experience, including open-item migration, master-data cleansing or chart‑of‑accounts mapping, is beneficial
  • Hands‑on and detail‑oriented, with the willingness to work directly through data and reconciliation issues rather than operating only in an advisory capacity
  • Proactive, curious and practical, with the confidence to challenge data that does not appear complete, accurate or fit for purpose
  • Able to work independently, structure findings clearly and **escalate** only matters requiring senior Finance input or business judgement
  • Comfortable operating in an evolving project environment and taking ownership of assigned activities through to completion
  • Clear communicator able to work effectively with Finance, IT, project teams, implementation partners and senior stakeholders
  • Strong understanding of general ledger structures, chart of accounts, reporting dimensions and accounting reconciliations
  • Ability to distinguish between data‑quality issues, mapping issues, system issues and matters requiring Finance business judgement
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, including preparation of concise, decision‑ready exception analysis
  • Strong Excel capability; Power Query, Alteryx, SQL or Power BI experience is beneficial
  • Strong documentation discipline and understanding of the need for complete, accurate and auditable migration evidence
