Your new role
As Finance Partner and ideally a qualified Accountant (ACCA/CIPFA/CIMA/ACA), you will provide financial advice and guidance to managers to improve business performance and support the delivery of the Cabinet’s vision, priorities, and values for the education sector across the council region.
You will identify, develop, and support opportunities and initiatives to transform financial services delivery across the Council, implement business process improvements, and provide financial advice to managers in designated service areas. Your role includes developing capital and revenue business cases, conducting options appraisals, and supporting strategic business objectives, cost reduction, and income-generation initiatives.
Building effective working relationships, supporting decision-making, managing financial resources, and mentoring are fundamental aspects of this role.
Ideally, you hold a professional accountancy qualification or are studying towards one, with experience in improving financial performance, budgeting, and analytical approaches. You should be skilled in providing financial advice to non-financial managers, with strong interpersonal and relationship management skills. Experience in preparing business cases, option appraisals, and supporting projects is essential.
You should have a good understanding of financial, legal, and technical policies within a local authority context, alongside strong ICT skills and experience with financial systems. Knowledge of current issues in local government finance and the efficiency agenda is advantageous.
