Job summary

Northern Gas and Power, Gateshead, is seeking a Finance Operations Manager to lead payroll, management accounts, treasury, AP and AR across multiple entities and jurisdictions. You will own the accuracy, compliance and efficiency of core finance operations and drive improvements with your team.

You’ll sit between the Finance Operations Director and a 15-strong team, setting objectives, conducting performance reviews and partnering with senior leadership to deliver timely month-end closes and

Qualifications

• Experience managing payroll, management accounts and ledger operations across multiple entities and jurisdictions.
• Strong technical accounting knowledge and ability to produce management accounts across entities.
• Experience leading a team of 10+ including supervisors or team leads.
• Qualified accountant with ACA/ACCA/CIMA or qualified by experience.
• Advanced proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent communication skills with non-finance stakeholders.
• Attention to detail with a strong control mindset and ability to meet deadlines.
• Experience in fast-paced, scaling or multi-entity environments is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Leading the end-to-end payroll process and ensuring HMRC compliance across deductions and year-end reporting.
• Managing preparation and consolidation of management accounts across 20 entities in 7 jurisdictions.
• Producing P&L, balance sheet and cash flow statements with variance analysis and commentary.
• Overseeing daily cash management, cash flow forecasting and liquidity planning including FX exposure.
• Running purchase ledger: invoices, approvals, reconciliations, payments.
• Owning sales ledger and credit control to minimise debtor days.
• Producing financial reports and KPI dashboards for board and leadership.
• Supporting audit, statutory accounts and regulatory filings (Companies House, HMRC, VAT).
• Setting objectives and conducting performance reviews for direct reports.
