Job description

Hamilton Academy is looking to appoint a motivated and experienced Finance Officer to oversee the day-to-day accounting and financial functions of the school.

The role would be ideally suited to someone with an accounting background and experience in a SME, charity, or school.

The role is offered part-time, three days per week including school holiday periods, but some flexibility on working hours and days will be considered for the right candidate.

Term time only: No

Salary Type: Bucks pay

Salary details: Grade 6. Actual starting salary £21,700, more for an experienced candidate

Contract type: Permanent

Hours: 22 hours per week

About us

Hamilton Academy is a split-site, multicultural primary school with friendly supportive staff and over 600 happy well-motivated children. We are committed to raising standards and giving all our children the opportunity to develop as individuals. The Finance Officer is a key role in the administration team that helps support and enable the overall educational goals of the school.

The role will be focused on the core financial accounting process for the school, supporting the Business Manager and Finance Assistant with the smooth operation of the school financial procedures.

The post holder will be responsible for recording of income and expenditure onto the school’s financial system (IRIS Financials), processing regular payment runs, completing monthly bank reconciliations, regular VAT reporting, and maintaining the fixed asset ledger. The school also undertakes payroll in-house, with the post holder having responsibility for processing the monthly payroll (via Access Payroll), including submitting returns to HMRC and pension providers.

About you

Applicants will need to hold an AAT or CCAB qualification and be able to demonstrate a sound understanding of accounting practice as it applies to an organisation of our type and size.

Experience within the academies sector is an advantage, but not a requirement. You should have a strong attention to detail, a focus on accuracy, and be a confident IT user of financial software and MS Excel.

You should be able to demonstrate that you possess sound analytical skills, strong communication skills, are positive, flexible in attitude and approach, as well as being able work to deadlines and use your own initiative to manage your workload.
