Job summary

Wiltshire Council is looking for a Finance Officer to support the Kinship Team with financial arrangements, invoicing, and assessments to help families through financial hardship.

Salary: £31,537 - £33,699 per annum
Hours per week: 37 hours
Temporary/Fixed term: Until 31 March 2028
Interview date: Weeks commencing 21st September & 28th September 2026

As a Finance Officer within our expanding Kinship Team, you will support with specific aspects of Wiltshire's work as one of 7 Local Authorities selected to be a Kinship Zone. The role will involve close collaboration with professionals across various Children's Services departments. This is a varied and rewarding role where accuracy, initiative and problem-solving are essential. You will set up and manage financial arrangements, monitor and verify invoices and allowances, carry out financial assessments and reviews, and respond to urgent requests that help families through periods of financial hardship. You will also investigate and resolve payment issues, maintain clear audit trails and ensure compliance with legislation, financial regulations and council policies.

Alongside your operational responsibilities, you will produce accurate reports, reconcile budgets, support forecasting and year-end processes, and provide advice and guidance to colleagues and service users. We are looking for someone who is confident working with spreadsheets and financial data, can communicate information clearly, and is keen to identify opportunities to improve systems and processes.
