Job description

Finance Manager - TV Production

Leading independent TV production company specializing in documentary series, factual entertainment, and current affairs is seeking a proficient Finance Manager. This key role within the central finance team will oversee the financial health and HMRC compliance of the group, representing the owners' interests.

The position reports to the Commercial Finance Director and collaborates with the Production Accountant(s), depending on the company's slate.

Responsibilities:

  1. Treasury management: Monthly consolidation of group cash flow forecasts based on active productions; managing daily unreconciled bank transactions.
  2. Maintain the group's Xero accounts ledger.
  3. Oversee month-end closing processes, including Production Cost Manager reporting, recoveries, recharge postings, AP, AR, balance sheets, and bank reconciliations.
  4. Post monthly management accounts adjustments such as revenue recognition, overhead prepayments, and royalty accruals.
  5. Manage the monthly trial balance close and review for all group entities, including preparing management accounts with profit & loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
  6. Payroll management: Lead in-house payroll processes, coordinating with the payroll partner for payslips, payments, and HMRC filings.
  7. Administer pension and health insurance schemes, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  8. Ensure VAT compliance: quarterly review, submission, and payment, with reconciliation to HMRC records via the Government Gateway.
  9. Track rights and royalty reporting, manage sales invoicing, and credit control.
  10. Handle monthly purchase ledger payments for central overheads.
  11. Administer pre-paid debit cards (Equals), exporting transactions into projects monthly.
  12. Perform general financial duties: raising sales invoices, posting purchase invoices, journal entries, reconciliations, and bank transactions.
  13. Support production accounting: maintain and reconcile cost monitors in Xero, process payments, raise project funding invoices, manage petty cash, forecast cash flows, set up supplier accounts, and liaise with suppliers and production teams.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Accountancy qualification or actively pursuing ACCA/AAT/CIMA.
  • Proficient in transaction processing and financial systems.
  • Knowledge of HMRC regulations, including payroll compliance.
  • Responsible, discreet, and process-oriented.
  • Strong academic background.
  • Experience in TV or film production preferred.
  • Familiarity with Xero accounting software.
