About the role
As a key member of the Controllership team, this high-profile technical role reporting to the Head of Finance, Group Reporting, will be responsible for the financial accounting and controls for Boots UK, ROI and No.7 BC, ensuring accurate and timely reporting both locally and to the wider Group and ensuring full compliance with US GAAP, IFRS and Group policy along with ensuring we maintain a robust control environment.
Key responsibilities
• Plan and coordinate the completion, review and sign-off of month end, quarter end and year end closes including oversight of the wider finance teams and their outputs.
• Support with the identification and timely resolution of and account and/or controls issues to enable accurate and timely close and financial reporting of Boots UK & Ireland performance, for both internal and statutory reporting.
• Work closely with the wider finance team including commercial, FP&A and the on and offshore transactional teams to remain aware of relevant commercial matters that could impact the accounting and expected results of the businesses.
• Responsible for promoting and supporting an effective working relationship with the transactional finance teams, Finance Business Partners, FP&A and the wider operational teams across the month and including around month end close in order to manage expectations.
• Providing support to the offshore BPO team as required, providing local oversight, support and review of certain BPO deliverables, to maintain quality of deliverables and adherence to controls, ensuring issues are identified, escalated and resolved timely.
• Responsible for the review and approval of relevant key journals, account reconciliations and controls, including supporting, managing and advising around any investigatory work required.
• Manage the statutory accounts preparation process for BUK and ROI entities, including the conversion from US GAAP to IFRS.
What you'll need to have
• Qualified Accountant with strong and up-to-date technical accounting skills.
• Strong verbal and written communications skills with the ability to explain complex financial matters to a variety of audiences and communication with senior stakeholders.
• SAP and Cognos experience required.
• Strong Excel skills.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify the root cause and resolution of problems.
• Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with senior stakeholder across the business as well as finance.
