Job description

FearFree delivers Domestic Abuse, Sexual Violence, and Stalking services across the Southwest. We provide holistic, responsive, victim-focused, and trauma-informed support.

The holder of this post will manage, control, and administer all financial matters for the organization, maintaining all financial records in compliance with regulatory and best practice procedures and long-term plans. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Preparation of year-end accounts up to and including provisional balance sheet.
  • Preparation of monthly accounts, cash flow forecasts, and fund reports for trustees, senior management, and project managers.
  • Liaison with employees regarding financial issues, e.g., expenses. This role involves working closely with the CEO, as part of the senior management team, and with the Trustee Board Finance Sub Committee.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Accounting & Reporting

  • Prepare annual financial statements in line with Charity SORP, ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Produce management accounts and financial insights to support strategic planning.
  • Manage financial reporting for contracts and grants, liaising with stakeholders and funders.
  • Attend Finance, Audit & Risk Committee meetings and respond to questions and queries.

Financial Operations

  • Process payroll in compliance with tax, pension, and employment regulations, and allocate costs accurately.
  • Manage treasury funds and assets according to board policies.
  • Implement financial controls to safeguard assets and ensure efficiency.
  • Strengthen financial governance through policies and controls.
  • Maintain effective financial procedures supporting compliance and operations.
  • Oversee financial systems and ensure integration with ICT infrastructure.

Budgeting & Value for Money

  • Support budget holders with financial planning and management.
  • Prepare annual budgets and three-year forecasts.
  • Develop strategies to optimize resource use and achieve value for money.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining service quality.

Finance Team Leadership & Management

  • Provide line management to finance team members, supporting their development.
  • Foster a positive team culture and monitor performance.
  • Set objectives and guide team members towards excellence.
  • Promote collaboration and communication across the organization.

Person Specification

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Professional qualification in finance/accounting (ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, or equivalent).
  • Experience in charity accounting and financial reporting, including Charity SORP compliance.
  • Expertise in management accounts and budgeting.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll and taxation regulations.
  • Proficiency in financial systems and ICT management.
  • Ability to implement financial controls and risk strategies.
