Job summary

Lucy Electric is seeking an experienced Lead of Transactional Team to oversee the transactional finance function, including Accounts Payable, Credit Control, and General Ledger operations. The role provides leadership and cover for the transactional finance team, ensuring accurate financial processing, strong controls, compliance with statutory requirements, and efficient month-end reporting.

As part of the leadership team, you will oversee VAT, PAYE and HMRC reporting, support payroll checks

Qualifications

• Qualified ACA/ACCA/CIMA with 3+ years experience.
• Professional membership with a recognised accountancy body.
• Ability to communicate effectively at all levels and influence others.
• Ability to work independently for significant periods.
• Excellent Excel modelling skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to write financial policy and procedure documents.

Responsibilities

• Lead the transactional finance team across AP, Credit Control and GL. Provide coaching and performance management for up to 3 direct reports.
• Oversee GL journal postings, VAT, PAYE and HMRC reporting, ensuring compliance and timely submissions.
• Manage Accounts Payable and Credit Control processes with robust controls.
• Oversee Fixed Asset register, additions, disposals, depreciation and reconciliations; drive process improvements.
• Support month-end and year-end close; prepare statutory accounts and reconciliations.
• Act as escalation point for internal/external queries; liaise with auditors and stakeholders.

Job Purpose

We are seeking an experienced Lead of Transactional Team to oversee the transactional finance function, including Accounts Payable, Credit Control, and General Ledger operations. The role provides leadership and cover for the transactional finance team, ensuring accurate financial processing, strong controls, compliance with statutory requirements, and efficient month-end reporting.

Lucy Electric is an international leader in intelligent secondary power distribution products and solutions, with features such as remote operation and monitoring. Linking energy generation to consumption, the business specialises in high-performance medium and low-voltage switchgear for utility, industrial and commercial applications.

Key Accountabilities

Leadership & Team Management

• Lead the transactional finance team across Accounts Payable, Credit Control, and General Ledger functions.
• Provide coaching, development, and performance management to support team capability and effectiveness.
• Ensure smooth day-to-day operations and provide cover for the transactional finance function when required.

Financial Control, Tax & Compliance

• Oversee the General Ledger, including review and authorisation of journal postings to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
• Manage VAT, PAYE, and HMRC reporting processes, ensuring full compliance and timely submissions.
• Support payroll checking to ensure accuracy prior to processing.
• Maintain strong financial controls and ensure compliance with audit and internal control requirements.

Accounts Payable & Credit Control

• Oversee Accounts Payable, ensuring timely and accurate processing of supplier invoices and payments.
• Oversee Credit Control, ensuring effective debt management and timely collection of outstanding balances.
• Maintain robust controls across both functions.

Fixed Assets & Process Improvement

• Oversee the fixed asset register, including additions, disposals, depreciation, and reconciliations.
• Drive continuous improvement in processes, systems, and financial controls to improve efficiency and accuracy.

Financial Reporting & Month-End

• Support month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring deadlines are met accurately and efficiently.
• Prepare statutory accounts in line with relevant accounting standards.
• Produce reconciliations, reports, and supporting documentation as required.

Stakeholder & Audit Management

• Act as escalation point for internal and external finance queries.
• Liaise with external auditors and support audit processes.
• Work closely with internal stakeholders to resolve financial issues and support business operations.

To perform tasks commensurate with the position, and to have a flexible approach within the department. Manage, mentor and develop 3 direct reports (management accountant, credit controller and purchase ledger administrator), with overall responsibility for a team of 6.

Qualifications, skills and experience

Essential

• Qualified ACA/ACCA/CIMA with 3+ years experience
• Professional membership with a recognised accountancy body
