Job description

We're partnering exclusively with a growing, design-led Teesside-based business in the furniture and interiors industry to recruit a confident, hands-on Financial Controller.

This is a fantastic opportunity to take ownership of finance in a dynamic entrepreneurial group with operations across the UK and US. You'll be the most senior person in the office day-to-day, working closely with a fractional CFO who will act as a mentor and interim Financial Controller while you embed into the role and take full ownership.

The Opportunity

This is a key appointment for the business. Following a period of change, including the closure of overseas manufacturing, a digital acquisition, and operational restructuring the business is now ready to stabilise, scale and build a strong internal finance function.

They need someone who can get stuck in, bring clarity to the chaos, and build finance from the ground up, becoming a trusted and visible leader within the organisation.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Take full control of finance across two trading businesses
  • Produce accurate management accounts, cashflow and board reporting
  • Reconcile legacy issues, resolve aged balances, and implement financial controls
  • Act as the lead finance presence in the office daily
  • Partner with the fractional CFO to transition and embed structure
  • Mentor and oversee part-time bookkeeping support
  • Deputise for the owners when needed, providing leadership and confidence

About You

  • Fully qualified (ACCA, ACA, CIMA) or strong QBE with solid SME experience
  • Proven experience leading finance in a hands-on, fast-paced environment
  • Resilient, calm under pressure, and comfortable prioritising a varied workload
  • Highly organised, proactive, and able to bring order and structure
  • A confident communicator who can influence and challenge when required
  • Experience in product-based, interiors, retail or e-commerce environments is a bonus

Why This Role?

  • Autonomy from day one - be the senior voice in finance on site
  • Work with a supportive CFO mentor and learn from an experienced interim FC
  • Build something from scratch- systems, team, reporting, controls
  • Be part of an evolving, entrepreneurial business with strong potential
  • Collaborative, team-oriented culture with room to grow
  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays, pension, and office-based stability with flexibility
