Job summary

Axon Moore Group Ltd in St Helens is supporting a well-established SME by appointing an Interim Finance Manager on a six-month contract. You will own the day-to-day finance function, delivering robust management information and forecasting to the senior team.

We seek an experienced Finance Manager/Financial Controller with strong balance sheet, cash flow and working capital skills, plus hands-on leadership and excellent stakeholder communication. ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualifies, or equivalent experience.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as Finance Manager, Financial Controller or similar.
• Strong management accounts and financial reporting experience.
• Excellent balance sheet control, cash flow and working capital knowledge.
• Experience leading a finance team.
• Proficient in Excel and financial systems.
• A hands-on and proactive approach in a fast-paced SME.
• Excellent communication with senior stakeholders.
• ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualification or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Own the month-end management accounts process.
• Produce accurate and timely monthly management information.
• Manage balance sheet reconciliations and financial controls.
• Oversee cash flow forecasting and working capital.
• Support budgeting and forecasting activity.
• Provide financial analysis and commercial insight to senior management.
• Oversee transactional finance: purchase ledger, sales ledger, credit control.
• Manage and develop the wider finance team.
• Ensure robust financial controls and processes.
• Collaborate with operational and commercial stakeholders.
• Support year-end and audit requirements as needed.
• Identify and implement improvements to finance processes.

Axon Moore are delighted to be supporting a well-established and successful £20m turnover business based in St Helens in the appointment of an Interim Finance Manager on an initial six-month contract.This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Finance Manager to join the business and take ownership of the day-to-day finance function, ensuring strong financial control, accurate reporting and effective management information throughout the contract.Working closely with the senior leadership team, the successful candidate will provide stability across the finance function whilst supporting the business with its reporting, forecasting and wider commercial requirements.

The Role

Key responsibilities will include:

• Taking ownership of the month-end management accounts process
• Producing accurate and timely monthly management information
• Managing balance sheet reconciliations and financial controls
• Overseeing cash flow forecasting and working capital
• Supporting budgeting and forecasting activity
• Providing financial analysis and commercial insight to senior management
• Overseeing the transactional finance function, including purchase ledger, sales ledger and credit control
• Managing and supporting the wider finance team
• Ensuring robust financial controls and processes are maintained
• Working closely with operational and commercial stakeholders
• Supporting year-end and audit requirements where required
• Identifying and implementing improvements to finance processes and reporting
• Providing hands‑on support across the finance function as required

About You

We are looking for an experienced Finance Manager / Financial Controller who can quickly establish themselves within an SME environment and make an immediate impact. Ideally, you will have:

• Previous experience operating as a Finance Manager, Financial Controller or similar
• Strong management accounts and financial reporting experience
• Excellent understanding of balance sheet control, cash flow and working capital
• Experience managing and developing a finance team
• Strong Excel and financial systems experience
• A hands‑on and proactive approach
• The ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced SME environment
• Strong communication skills and the confidence to work with senior stakeholders
• Ideally, you will be ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified, although relevant experience will also be considered
