We are currently recruiting for a Finance Manager to join our diverse team.
This is a critical role for Xelect and an opportunity to join an entrepreneurial team, leading overall finance workstreams and acting as a key business partner for the commercial and laboratory teams. The role is a unique opportunity for someone looking to gain a 360-degree responsibility in finance and develop into a senior business partner.
Reporting directly to the Global Head of Xelect, with a dotted line to the Financial Planning Director.
This role is based in St Andrews, Scotland.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare monthly report including detailed analysis of any trends analysis of the overall financial position.
- Prepare annual budget and quarterly forecasts.
- Provide analysis for statutory accounts and tax computations.
- Supporting the development of the business plan and strategic input into pricing and commercial arrangements.
- Financial modelling to assess the merits of different financial outcomes, based on commercial choices.
- Provide and maintain a costing model to support our pricing.
- Input to new customer proposals to ensure the contract is profitable and deliverable with existing resources.
- Review and advise on contract wording, pricing and risks.
- Co-ordinate with Breeding Programme/Laboratory services departments to ensure project management data is current, correct and consistent with financial system.
- Maintain a record of all company contracts, including customer contracts, in the Genus Agiloft system. Monitor and report on this system to trigger contract renewals and pricing adjustments.
- Participate in Grant applications.
- Highlight areas of internal control or process weakness and recommend improvements.
- Submission of half yearly reporting packs to group (Group Consolidation Pack, Unit Analytical Review, Internal Controls Questionnaire and Tax Pack).
- Supervision of cash flow and foreign exchange exposure forecasts.
- Ensure accurate quarterly preparation and submission of VAT returns.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in finance and qualified accountant (ICAEW, ICAS, ACCA, or CIMA).
- At least 5-7 years of experience in Finance/Accounting and 5+ years PQE.
- Good understanding and appreciation of business systems with a sound understanding of business processes and data flows.
- Good understanding of accounting packages such as Xero.
- Ability to think and challenge the status quo on existing processes and assumptions.
- Ability and desire to think about business processes and solutions across the whole business.
- Good at absorbing information and building on what’s been learnt.
- A self-motivated team player with the ability to work effectively in remote, multi-discipline teams.
- Works with a sense of urgency and has a ‘starter-finisher’ approach.
- Proven analytical skills and a good problem solver.
- Proven communication skills with excellent oral and writing skills and the ability to communicate in an organised and concise manner.
- Experience managing highly sensitive information with extreme integrity.
- Experience managing and operating within a matrixed reporting relationship with the ability to influence at all levels of an organisation.
