Based in Southampton, the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) is an independent organisation within the Department for Transport. The Branch investigates accidents and incidents involving UK vessels worldwide and within UK territorial waters, aiming to improve maritime safety and prevent future accidents.

The postholder will play a key role in managing the MAIB. Responsibilities include providing finance management support, understanding procurement policies from purchase to pay, monitoring financial performance, maintaining financial systems, and analyzing data for senior management. The role also involves administrative support, such as setting up meetings and managing information.

This is a fast-paced environment with daily challenges, and financial qualifications and training will be provided.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Budget and Finance: Profiling budgets, ensuring funds are allocated properly, and producing monthly expenditure forecasts.
  • Procurement: Supporting contract administration for goods and services.
  • Purchase Orders: Managing the end-to-end process.
  • Invoice Payment: Liaising with requestors, ensuring goods/services are delivered, and processing invoices promptly.
  • MAIIF: Acting as treasurer, liaising with the Chief Inspector, paying invoices, and producing annual audit reports.
  • Receipts: Ensuring payments made to the MAIB are deposited into the correct DfT bank accounts.
  • Administrative Duties: Supporting the Head of Business with general administrative tasks.
