Finance Manager – Sheffield (Not-for-Profit Organisation)

A respected not-for-profit organisation based in Sheffield is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Finance Manager to join its dedicated team. This is a rewarding opportunity for a finance professional who is passionate about making a difference and contributing to the financial sustainability of a mission-driven organisation.

Role Overview

The Finance Manager will play a key role in overseeing day-to-day financial operations, supporting strategic planning, and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements. Working closely with the Head of Finance, they will manage a small finance team and contribute to the organisation’s long-term financial health.

Key Responsibilities

Finance Duties:

  • Preparation of monthly management accounts and consolidation using Excel.
  • Reconciliation of balance sheet nominal accounts.
  • Support in preparing cashflow forecasts and annual statutory accounts.
  • Liaison with external auditors and production of year-end audit files, including Extended Trial Balance (ETB), lead schedules, and draft accounts.
  • Management of intercompany recharges and reconciliations.
  • Assistance with quarterly VAT returns and bank reconciliations.
  • Oversight of sales and purchase ledgers, weekly payment runs, and payroll authorisations.
  • Support in budget preparation and financial analysis projects.
  • Maintenance of company files and fixed asset registers.

Management Duties:

  • Day-to-day management of the Finance Assistant, including task setting and performance appraisals.

General Duties:

  • Collaboration with the Head of Finance to identify and resolve issues proactively.
  • Provision of ad hoc finance and administrative support.
  • Participation in system improvement projects (Access and Selima), including help desk support and staff training.
  • Maintenance of grant correspondence files.

Person Specification

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Clear and professional communication skills across all formats.
  • Experience with Sage Accounts or similar accounting software.
  • AAT qualification or equivalent experience in a similar finance role.
  • Excellent time management and ability to work independently.
  • Analytical mindset with a proactive, problem-solving approach.
  • Willingness to undertake relevant training to support organisational and personal development.
