Position Summary
The Finance Manager, based in London, is part of the EMEA Corporate Accounting team. This role is responsible for producing accurate, timely, and compliant financial information, supporting strategic decision-making through insightful financial analysis.
As a Finance Manager at Carlyle, you will manage monthly management accounts under both Local GAAP and US GAAP, prepare statutory financial statements and regulatory returns, and ensure compliance with accounting and tax requirements. The role also includes oversight of junior team members and collaboration across departments and regions.
Department Description
This role is within the London-based EMEA Corporate Accounting team, part of Carlyle's global Corporate Accounting function.
Responsibilities
- Management Accounts (Local & US GAAP)
- Prepare and post journal entries (revenue, accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, tax provisions, etc.) in PeopleSoft
- Deliver timely and complete monthly management accounts, including full balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis
- Coordinate with the US Corporate Accounting team on close matters (e.g., intercompany reconciliations, advisory fee bookings)
- Liaise with Tax, Treasury, Payroll, AR, and AP teams
- Statutory & Regulatory Reporting
- Prepare annual financial statements and supporting audit documentation
- Manage statutory and regulatory returns under local GAAP and tax law
- Support tax compliance and transfer pricing reporting
- Coordinate with external accountants and service providers on filings and payments
- Team Leadership
- Manage and mentor one to two direct reports
- Review and approve journals, VAT returns, tax computations, management accounts, and regulatory filings
- Process Improvement & Projects
- Identify and implement improvements to reporting processes and internal controls
- Collaborate with US teams to streamline global processes
- Leverage technology to enhance efficiency and accuracy
- Budgeting & Forecasting
- Assist in annual budget and quarterly reforecast preparation
- Coordinate data collection across departments
- Analyze actual vs. budgeted costs and explain variances
QualificationsEducation & Certificates- Accounting or Finance degree
- 3 years plus post qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
Professional Experience- 5 years plus of public accounting and / or private company with statutory and management accounting experience
- Experience within financial services sector
Technical Requirements- Proficient in Local GAAP, IFRS, and US GAAP
- Strong statutory accounts and audit experience
- Experience/familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP, etc)
- Advanced Excel skills
- Strong analytical and communication skills
- Team leadership experience
- Ability to identify and resolve technical accounting, tax, or legal issues
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and eager to learn
