Job description

Are you a versatile finance professional looking to shape your next role in a dynamic, high-growth environment?

W&A is proud to be partnering with Kangaroo Self Storage Ltd (KSSL) to appoint a Finance Manager who will play a pivotal part in the company’s exciting growth trajectory.

About Kangaroo Self Storage

Founded in 2005 by CEO Chris Stevens, KSSL is a growing self-storage business with 13 existing facilities across Scotland, North West England, and the Midlands, and two more launching soon in Sunderland and Grimsby. Now backed by SROA Capital, the largest privately owned self storage company in the USA, Kangaroo is aiming to become one of the Top 5 self storage providers in the UK within four years through an ambitious M&A-led expansion.

With recent successful recapitalisation and a growing team of over 60 employees, this is a compelling opportunity to join a business at a transformational moment in its journey.

The Opportunity

As Finance Manager, you’ll report directly to the CFO and work closely with and support the Financial Controller. This is a hands-on and varied role, well-suited to someone with broad finance expertise who can balance operational detail with strategic contribution. Your remit will span financial integration of acquisitions, oversight of transaction processing, cash flow forecasting, and improving controls around new site development projects.

You will be instrumental in strengthening the finance team’s capacity and resilience while helping to streamline workloads across the department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support finance aspects of acquisitions: including due diligence, reviewing legal documentation, and post-deal integration.

  • Take ownership of financial aspects of acquired entities until they are fully absorbed into the group.

  • Partner with the Development Manager to appraise, monitor and control capital expenditure projects.

  • Lead and manage the accounts payable and receivable functions, including supervision of existing staff.

  • Maintain short- and medium-term cash flow models, ensuring robust treasury practices.

  • Assist with budgeting and reforecasting cycles and contribute to the preparation of ad hoc financial analysis.

  • Provide absence cover for and support to the CFO and FC.

  • Continuously improve processes to enhance departmental efficiency and accuracy.

Candidate Profile

This role would suit a qualified accountant with demonstrable experience in industry, preferably within a multi-entity or acquisitive environment. You’ll be:

  • A finance all-rounder, comfortable working across the spectrum from routine processing to high-value analysis.

  • Proactive, reliable, and highly organised, with the confidence to manage a small team and liaise across departments.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment with shifting priorities.

  • Practical and hands-on, this is not a “desk-only” managerial role.

  • Ideally experienced in acquisition or project-related finance (though not essential to be an M&A specialist).

Why Join Kangaroo?

  • Be part of a scale-up success story - a rare opportunity to influence and embed best practices as the company expands.

  • Enjoy broad role diversity without being pigeonholed.

  • Work with supportive and entrepreneurial leadership which values team development.

Package

  • Salary: Competitive (available on request)

  • Location: Haddington, with hybrid flexibility (1 day WFH post-probation)

  • Benefits:

    • Pension (3% employer contribution)

    • Life and Critical Illness cover

    • Access to future Management Incentive Plan (MIP)

    • Discretionary bonus scheme

    • Health Plan

    • Free parking and free storage unit
