JOB TITLE: Finance Manager

JOB SCOPE

We are looking for an amazing Finance Manager to join the Waverley Abbey team based in Farnham, Surrey!

We seek an individual passionate about finance, system-oriented, and committed to delivering efficiency and excellence.

Working with our Finance Director, you will help lead the financial direction of Waverley Abbey Trust, fostering a culture of strong financial management, effective controls, and efficient processes, overseeing all aspects of our day-to-day financial management.

We need a strong communicator who is highly organized, adept at multitasking and prioritization in a busy environment; a great team player in a fast-paced organization.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Role Scope: Routine financial oversight including management and statutory accounting, budgeting, treasury, payroll, and audit.

Role Description: The Finance Manager oversees accurate financial records and controls for Waverley Abbey Trust and subsidiaries, managing a team of three, handling daily banking, VAT returns, gift aid, insurance, etc.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Monitor daily financial operations, including banking, reconciliations, payments, and payroll.
  2. Interpret complex financial data and provide updates as needed.
  3. Assist in organization-wide budgeting with the Finance Director.
  4. Monitor cash flow and financial transactions.
  5. Manage VAT returns, gift aid, legacies, payroll, pensions, and staff credit cards.
  6. Maintain fixed assets register and depreciation.
  7. Supervise and develop the Finance team to improve efficiency.
  8. Provide timely financial reports for management and improve reporting quality.
  9. Ensure timely and accurate reporting of obligations, budgets, and forecasts.
  10. Coordinate with external accountants/auditors for year-end accounts.
  11. Ensure compliance with statutory regulations and evolve finance policies.
  12. Collaborate on financial systems and process improvements.
  13. Stay updated on charity legal and financial regulations.

Key Requirements & Skills

  1. Degree or ATT qualification in accounting or finance management preferred.
  2. Minimum 10 years’ experience in finance management and accounting.
  3. Experience in the Charity and Higher Education sectors is advantageous.
  4. Proficiency with Sage 200, Microsoft Office, and accounting software.
  5. Experience with payroll, pensions, and leave administration.
  6. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  7. Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail, especially in planning, reporting, and budgeting.
