Job summary

Racesafe Equestrian in Corby, Northamptonshire, invites applications for a hands-on Finance Lead to take over bookkeeping, payroll and credit control. This full-time role runs 9am–5pm with some flexibility, and offers the chance to shape finance across our brands as we grow online sales.

You will run books in Xero across two companies, manage supplier and customer ledgers, handle weekly payroll, VAT returns and month-end packs, plus light HR admin.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years running bookkeeping, payroll and VAT for a business.
• Confident in Xero and handling weekly payroll.

Responsibilities

• Run the books in Xero across brands and two companies.
• Purchase ledger and supplier payments.
• Sales ledger and credit control across 120+ trade accounts.
• Weekly payroll for around 45 staff, RTI and pensions.
• Quarterly VAT returns under MTD, including imports/exports.
• Bank and account reconciliations, month-end close.
• Year-end pack for external accountant.
• Light HR admin: leave records and starter details.

Racesafe is a third-generation family business. We design and make equestrian body protection here in Corby, and run a small group of equestrian brands alongside. We sell through UK retailers, export partners overseas, and our own online stores.

Our office manager is retiring after 14 years. We need a hands-on finance person to take over the books, payroll and credit control.

This is an important time for Racesafe. We've added new brands, have new products launching, and are growing our online sales. You'll be a core part of the team, and your work will help shape how we grow.

Responsibilities include:

• Run the books in Xero across our brands and two companies
• Purchase ledger and supplier payments
• Sales ledger and credit control across 120+ trade accounts, UK and export
• Weekly payroll for around 45 staff, RTI and pensions (NEST)
• Quarterly VAT returns under MTD, including imports and exports
• Bank and account reconciliations, month-end close
• Year-end pack for our external accountant
• Light HR admin: leave records and new starter details

What you'll need

• At least 3 years running bookkeeping, payroll and VAT for a business, ideally including weekly payroll
• Confident in Xero
• Comfortable chasing money
• Accurate, organised and happy to own your area

Nice to have

• AAT Level 4, or part-qualified ACCA or CIMA
• Monthly management accounts and cash flow forecasting
• Experience with stock systems (we use Unleashed)
• Import VAT, EU sales or multi-currency
• Ideas for using tech to make finance quicker
