We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Part-Time Finance Manager to join our team and support the financial integrity and growth of the business.

Job Purpose

The Finance Manager will oversee and manage the financial operations of the company, with a strong focus on cost control, budgeting, financial reporting, and strategic planning. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that financial practices support the long-term success and profitability of the business.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Cost Management & Budget Control
  • Monitor project costs, analyse variances, and ensure alignment with budgets
  • Collaborate with project managers and quantity surveyors to track expenditures and identify cost-saving opportunities
  • Provide ongoing financial insight into job profitability and cash flow forecasting
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, financial reports, and performance summaries for senior leadership
  • Manage accounts receivable and payable, ensuring timely invoicing and payments
  • Develop and maintain cash flow forecasts and financial projections
  • Compliance & Governance
  • Ensure all financial practices adhere to statutory regulations and internal policies
  • Manage VAT returns, CIS (Construction Industry Scheme), and liaise with HMRC as necessary
  • Oversee payroll and pension administration in collaboration with external providers
  • Strategic Planning & Support
  • Assist in the preparation of business plans and funding applications
  • Advise Directors on financial implications of business activities and investment decisions
  • Identify financial risks and recommend mitigation strategies
  • System & Process Management
  • Maintain and improve financial systems, controls, and procedures
  • Ensure records are kept accurately and efficiently for audit and compliance purposes
  • Liaise with external accountants, banks, and auditors

Essential Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar finance role within a construction or contracting environment
  • Demonstrable experience in cost management, job costing, and project financial control
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as Xero, Sage, or similar construction-oriented platforms
  • A relevant accounting qualification (e.g. AAT, ACCA, CIMA) or qualified by experience
  • Strong knowledge of CIS, VAT, payroll, and other construction-specific financial regulations
  • Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to work independently

Desirable criteria

  • Experience working with SMEs in the construction industry
  • Familiarity with project management software and integration with financial systems
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial colleagues
  • Proactive, hands-on approach with a strong sense of initiative and accountability
