Job description

Job Description

As a leading international university, we pride ourselves on recruiting the best professional services staff to support our academic departments and provide a first-class student experience.

The university was founded in 1796 as ‘A Place of Useful Learning’ and continues to uphold this mission as a leading international technological university that is socially progressive. Our values reflect who we are and underpin our distinctive ways of working. We are:

  • People-oriented: committed to our staff and students, providing opportunities and investing in their development.
  • Bold: confident and challenging about what we do, and supportive of appropriate and managed risk in our decision-making.
  • Innovative: focused on discovering and applying knowledge with impact, and encouraging creative thinking and new ideas.
  • Collaborative: working together, internally and externally, with integrity and in an open, respectful way.
  • Ambitious: for our institution, staff, and students, as well as supporting the ambitions of our partners.

The Finance Directorate manages approximately £300m of income and expenditure annually, supporting around 7,500 staff and students who access our finance systems to initiate, review, and approve financial transactions and reports. The successful candidate will be a key member of the Finance Helpdesk team, responsible for providing professional advice and support on a broad range of finance matters to students, staff, external customers, and suppliers. This role involves effectively handling finance inquiries, ensuring resolution within required turnaround times, and contributing to continuous improvement in financial practices. Additionally, the role includes supporting financial training courses across the university and delivering training on a one-to-one basis.

Candidates should possess a formal qualification such as an HND or have considerable relevant experience, with a proven track record in a finance environment. Experience with Unit4 Business World On within a Higher Education finance setting is preferred. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent customer service skills, enthusiasm, and a commitment to high-quality support. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential to work effectively within the Finance Helpdesk team and across the wider Finance Directorate.
