Urgent Opportunity: Finance Director (Energy) – Immediate Start North London

12 month commitment

£128 per hour/ £230,400 p/annum

Are you a financial leader with a passion for the energy sector? We are seeking an experienced Finance Directorto join our team and drive financial excellence across our district heating and energy operations. This is a critical and urgent role—your expertise will directly support our ambitious growth and sustainability objectives.

Key Responsibilities 1. Strategic Financial Leadership in Energy

  • Develop and execute robust financial strategies to support our district heating and wider energy initiatives.

  • Provide financial oversight for all energy projects, ensuring effective budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.

  • Advise the Board and senior management on financial risks, opportunities, and sector-specific strategic decisions.

2. Energy-Focused Financial Operations
  • Oversee the preparation of accurate financial reports, ensuring compliance with energy industry regulations and standards.

  • Manage cash flow, working capital, and funding for current and future energy projects.

  • Ensure timely billing, revenue recognition, and cost recovery for district heating operations.

3. Stakeholder Engagement in the Energy Sector
  • Collaborate with investors, regulators, auditors, and local authorities to secure project funding and capital investment.

  • Serve as the financial point of contact for all energy-related projects and partnerships.

  • Foster strong relationships with suppliers, contractors, and key energy sector partners.

4. Risk Management & Compliance
  • Identify and manage financial risks related to energy pricing, contracts, and infrastructure investments.

  • Ensure full compliance with tax, regulatory, and reporting obligations specific to the UK energy sector.

  • Monitor and mitigate exposure to energy market fluctuations and related financial impacts.

5. Team Leadership & Process Improvement
  • Enhance financial processes and reporting systems to support efficient and accurate energy operations.

  • Provide financial guidance to operational teams, ensuring alignment with strategic energy objectives.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Proven experience as a Finance Director, CFO, or senior financial leader within the energy, utilities, or infrastructure sectors.

  • Deep understanding of district heating, energy markets, and sector-specific financial challenges.

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).

  • Demonstrated expertise in financial strategy, forecasting, and risk management for energy projects.

  • Strong knowledge of UK regulatory and compliance requirements in the energy sector.

  • Experience with project financing and capital investment for large-scale energy infrastructure.

  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
