Job description

Job Description

My client is a well-established £25m turnover Precision Engineering manufacturing SME, based at their modern 'state of the art' production facility in Skelmersdale, Lancashire.

As a key member of the Board, this is an excellent career opportunity for a graduate-calibre, hands-on Finance Director with strong Manufacturing/Engineering sector experience to join this ambitious SME at a critical stage of its development.

A short- to medium-term challenge for this role will focus on Cash Management/Cashflow Control as the company completes its current bank re-financing exercise and seeks new inward investment to position itself securely and manage current macro-economic pressures, while investing in plant and equipment to support sustainable growth into the future.

Key responsibilities/challenges will include:

  1. Oversee and develop the Finance, IT & HR functions.
  2. Provision of robust and timely financial, management, and statutory accounts.
  3. Develop KPIs to proactively monitor and drive business performance across the manufacturing supply chain to meet exacting standards from their largely Blue Chip client base.
  4. Focus initially on day-to-day proactive Cash Management and working capital within strict bank covenants, working closely with key suppliers.
  5. Manage the successful completion of the current significant bank re-financing exercise to establish a solid foundation for future development.
  6. Explore various lines of additional institutional investment funding.
  7. Prepare budgets and conduct regular re-forecasts.
  8. Operate as a finance business partner to the CEO in delivering capital projects, new product development, client tenders, and evaluating new business opportunities.
  9. Maintain regular contact with external stakeholders—banks, investors, auditors, tax advisors, insurers, etc.
  10. Act as a key member of the Board to ensure ongoing profitable and sustainable growth of this respected Precision Engineering business.

Candidate profile:

  1. A bright, high-calibre qualified accountant with strong reporting experience and the ability to implement robust financial controls, systems, and governance.
  2. Proven experience in Cash Management/Cashflow Control within a turnaround or highly geared growth environment, including meeting bank covenants, refinancing, sourcing external funding, and negotiating supplier payment terms.
  3. This full FD role requires operational and commercial experience, preferably within a similar manufacturing or engineering site-based environment.
  4. A confident professional with strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.

In return, my client offers a competitive executive salary up to £110k, plus F/E car and a comprehensive benefits package. Participation in their Executive Incentive Plan provides potential for significant long-term personal value.
